I was checking the latest BCS poll and I noticed all the matchups involve top 10 teams. I wonder if this is the first time this has happned. Usually a "less deserving" team gets in because of the automatic conference entry, a la ACC or Big East, or Notre Dame or a bowl game will pick a team with a bigger draw.
Rose: THE Ohio State University vs. Oregon: 8 vs. 7
Sugar: Florida vs. Cincinnati: 5 vs. 3
Fiesta: BSU vs. TCU: 4 vs 6
Orange: Iowa vs GT: 10 vs 9
Boise State and TCU got hosed.
Both have strong teams, and would benefit more from playing a “traditional” power. Playing each other, there’s little to be gained on the crediblity front.
I thought that was the point of it. The BCS bowls are the “big one” and get the top 10 (used to be top 8 when there were 4 games), and everybody else is an also ran.
I'm glad it worked that the top 10 all got BCS games - to me that is the closest thing to a playoff we currently have - the top 10 should get the bids.
For example Pitt in the 2005 Fiesta bowl as the Big East champ. I think Pitt was ranked 20th at the time
Notre Dame getting in despite being ranked outside the top 10: 2007 Sugar Bowl
A good quote I read earlier today in reference to the Fiesta bowl.... Everbody wanted a David vs. Goliath, we got a David vs David.
>> No it doesn’t work that way - they are conference champs vs someone
Right you are.
For example, if Nebraska had beaten Texas, then Nebraska, as Big 12 champ, would have automatically received a BCS bowl berth. And Nebraska was only ranked #22 (I think) going into the game. They surely would have moved up some spots, but probably not into the top 10.
(But we Texas fans are shore glad that didn’t happen, aren’t we?)
Be careful what you ask for. Roll Tide
The lines are out, have at it:
“The college football betting odds for every BCS Bowl game this season are up and well take our first look at the lines.
There were few surprises on the BCS Bowl Selection Show last night and the betting odds are already up for every game coming at us in early-January college football.
Bookmaker Sportsbook (our Sportsbook of the Year award winner) was the first to put up the BCS Bowl game betting odds and its not a big surprise. This is the place where the line originates and we highly recommend you take advantage of their incredible holiday sign-up bonus while getting in your BCS Bowl game picks and predictions.
Well start our coverage of the BCS Bowl game betting odds with the Rose Bowl. Oregon comes in as 3.5-point favorites on the spread and Im leaning on the Buckeyes right now. They are too good on defense for this game not to be close.
The Sugar Bowl betting odds are not much of a surprise with Florida a 10-point favorite against upstart Cincinnati. Florida will blow this team out if they care much following their national championship run letdown.
TCU comes in as 8-point favorites on the BCS Bowl betting odds as they get set for their Fiesta Bowl showdown against Boise State. You have to like the undefeated Broncos as 8-point underdogs after how close these teams played last year.
Georgia Tech is favored by 3.5 over Iowa in the Orange Bowl and this is the toughest of them all to decide on. Id lean toward Georgia Tech but Iowa is good at keeping the score close.
The national championship game between Alabama and Texas is the last of our BCS Bowl game betting odds and the Crimson Tide are favored by 5. I think they dominate Texas and this one will surely be involved in our picks and predictions.”
That's a big "If".
I’m sure Mack Brown & the Longhorns won’t run up the score on you too bad.
It’ll be a chance for ‘Bama to get re-acquainted with playing in a championship game. It’s been a LONG time for you, I know. For Texas, not so long. We already have experience winning championships in Pasadena in this millenium.
The Horns will be ready. Are you guys bringing the team that beat Florida, or the team that sucked against Tennesee? Just curious. :-)
Thanks for the explanation but I have to tell you I’m not a Texas fan.... Texas Tech here. I was thinking Nebraska had pulled off a big win though
Suppose BSU and two teams from the MWC were all ranked in the top ten, would all three get to play in a BSC bowl game? I doubt it very much.
Suppose Alabama and Texas play in a low scoring, poorly played game and suppose TCU pounds BSU into the ground, what are the chances of TCU even being ranked #2. We know that it’s impossible for it to be made #1.
I see where there will be at least 2 and perhaps 3 undefeated teams remaining AFTER the bowls are played, yet none of these teams will be playing each other afterwards. Must have been a misprint. Otherwise there can be no “National Champion”.
I would keep away from Florida vs. Cincinnati from a betting perspective. This could be a repeat of last year’s Sugar Bowl.

I think they all have the potential of being great games.

Ruh roh.
We (Buckeyes) appreciate your remembrance that we are THE team. Always show respect for a team named after a killer nut (or at least causing nausea if not death).

In that case, pretty darn good I would think. Especially if ‘Bama wins.
