I don't think it's a Castro hat but there is some resemblance because of its yukky green color and similar but not exact shape. It's not among her best choices for attire, IMO. Perhaps there's a story behind it like someone gave it to her or something. Who knows?
That being said, Sarah Palin is beautiful no matter what she wears because she shines from the inside out. Plus, her politics are simply gorgeous! ;-)

I own a hat just like the one Palin is wearing and in all honesty, if it was a “Castro” hat, my Cuban-exile father would disown me and then sue me to recoup the money he spent raising me. :)

Aquabird, have you been in a store that sells women’s fashions and accessories lately? Ever? She is wearing that hat because that is the style of hat that is for sale right now. No pill-box hats, no bonnets. I went to buy a winter hat a couple of weeks ago and three-quarters of the ones I found were exactly like that hat. The rest had ear-flaps, along the lines of peruvian peasant hats, upping the dorky factor significantly. The one she is wearing is called a “sarge cap” or “cadet” hat or “newsboy” hat. They are modeled on hats worn during the American civil war.

There's such a media double-standard. It's sickening. Did you even hear a word about this?

I'm a female and think she's beautiful in everything I've seen her wear. She could probably put on fatigues, cammo paint her face and still be absolutely gorgeous.
This thread put me in mind of the “Michelle wore clothes to the tree lighting” articles I saw. Or the obsession with Michelle's arms. People get hung up over the silliest things.

Do you have PDS? It is just a hat.
To: Aquabird
I think it’s adorable
And I think she’s wearing it because the snow came in a might earlier than expected and she wanted to keep her head dry
And once you’ve put a hat on, you don’t take it off because of ‘hat hair’
And it’s called a ‘paperboy’ hat
And black would look awful with her color hair
And that dark green is a better match
Any more questions?

In Woman of the Year Katharine Hepburn wore some funny hats. One so outlandish that a man sitting behind her at a baseball game (Spencer Tracy played a sports writer) had his view of the field obstructed.
But who cared? In her day no woman was more beautiful than Hepburn. Great legs on that gal.

It has big buttons up the side. Looks more like an oliver twist/”tiny tim” hat than a Fidel Castro hat.

1- That isn’t a “castro hat”
2- The “castro hat” is actually a standard US Army issue “fatigue cap” from the 1950s.
Thus it is a variant of a US Army fatigue cap.
