Here is what I would do. POWER THE COMPUTER OFF AND THEN UNPLUG IT. Then check the video cable on the back of the computer and on the back of the monitor. Make sure they are plugged in securely. Then power everything back on.
Usually color problems (everything has an odd tint) are caused by a loose or bad cable. What happens is that with older, analog video connection (not DVI, the older VGA connector), the video is sent as separate Red, Green, and Blue signals. When the cable is loose (or bad), one or more of these signals doesn’t get sent properly. You still see the picture, but the color is off because you’re missing one or more components.
As usually you guys are the best. Your advice worked. Turned off computer and check all connections. Got GOOD color now. THANKS
I vote for Scutter’s advice in #10.
If it doesn’t work, open the machine up and re-seat the video card (pull it out, push it back in), and if that doesn’t work re-install the drivers as a last resort. If that doesn’t work then chances are good that your monitor got damaged by the power surge — which would be really bad luck and unlikely.
I’d say Scutter’s advice will fix it 9 times out of 10.
It's amazing how many ills this advice often cures. I'm reminded of this clip from "The IT Crowd".
