Breathe easy, Boise State fans.
Texas hit a do-or-die field goal on the final play of the game Saturday night to beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game.
The kick likely put Texas in the national championship game and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. If Nebraska had won, the Broncos might have gotten snubbed by the Bowl Championship Series.

Graham Watson over at ESPN.com now speculating BSU v TCU at the Fiesta Bowl (blah). He does raise the prospect of Florida and BSU at the Orange Bowl. Still say Orange will pass. I think the Orange Bowl is too far away to put people in the seats for BSU and they’ll take that into consideration.
Though on the other hand how much cost difference is there between Tempe and Miami for a flight, I haven’t looked lately. Tempe I’d just drive to.
Amen! Go Huskers.
Well, I’m just a distant observer with no real dog in the hunt. If they played next week, I think ‘bama would destroy them. By the time the DO get around to playing, who knows? I’m just hoping for a good game in the end.
But they didn't and they only have themselves to blame.
Just darn!! :(
That’s what happened to Bama last year. Think they “enjoyed” the time off too much and paid for it when the bowl game was finally played. They did terrible.
This year they should be better prepared. After all, the NC is on the line.
>> Texas didnt look like a worthy opponent for Alabama.
Yeah, a team that mauled unranked Tennesee by the lopsided score of 12-10, and smothered Auburn... no wait, sorry, trailed Auburn most of the game until the last drive... yeah, a team that good deserves better.
I am still in disbelief that Nebraska screwed off the final kick off like that. That is what lost the game. Not anything else.
“Alabama vs Texas for Championship
Florida vs. TCU for no. 2.
Cincinnati vs BSU for no. 3”
Cincinnati beat the strongest 12 game schedule of ANY top team, and they should play Alabama for the national championship. Cincinnati might well win, and Texas has no chance.
As things currently stand, the BCS championship game is a farce.
You can catch a ball that has crossed out of bounds as long as your feet remain in bounds. So the clock should not have stopped simply because the ball crossed the plane of the boundary.
Boise State would probably rather go to the Fiesta Bowl than the Orange Bowl.
Well, they’ll play and then we’ll know. That’s all. Today, Alabama looked way better. Only a Texas partisan would think otherwise. I have no dog in this hunt and don’t really care who wins in the end. But no sane fan who watched both games would imagine Texas could play with Alabam. Texas neded time put back on the clock to even make it into the game with Alabama. If the review had gone the other way, would you imagine Nebraska could beat Alabama?
Actually, Nebraska can blame their kicker. Kicking out of bounds during that last drive killed their shot at the game, IMO. Sure, there were other errors, but that was what kept Texas in it.
I laughed out loud when I heard Mack Brown’s “We’re the greatest come-from behind team” b.s. First off, you lucked into coming back at all with that crappy kickoff out of bounds. Second off, the refs called a horsecollar personal foul on a jersey grab that wasn’t a horsecollar.
YEOW-SUH!
Yep. Texas didn't win it, Nebraska lost it.
I agree, because it would be a shorter flight from Boise to Phoenix and also about a day's drive from Boise to the Phoenix area.
>> Well, theyll play and then well know.
Exactly so.
>> Today, Alabama looked way better. Only a Texas partisan would think otherwise.
Today, Alabama looked better against their opponent than Texas did against their opponent. I am a highly partisan Texas fan, and I don’t think otherwise. But what about last week, when Texas against their opponent looked better than Alabama did against theirs? What about when Alabama looked like an inept junior high school fan against Tennesee, a FAR inferior team on paper?
I have no problem against the usual “XYZ sux, ABC rules, we’re gonna kick your butt!” partisan “trash talking”. Goodness knows I have done plenty of it myself.
But when you say that undefeated, untied Texas is UNWORTHY to face undefeated, untied Alabama — THAT gets under my skin.
And that’s exactly what you said.
Anyway, I call Bravo Sierra on that claim, FRiend. I think it could go either way.
