"Oh geez. Is this really graphic really necessary? We found it over at CBS 5, attached to today's "2 Pit Bulls Who Mauled Dog Shot In East Palo Alto" item. The story goes like this: An East Palo Alto cop "shot two pit bulls" that had just mauled a tiny poodle mix as it was being walked by its owner last night. Then, the aggressive pooches "approached responding officers in a 'vicious manner,'" which is when the fuzz had no other choice but to open fire, killing the dogs.
But these kind of headlines and jarring graphics, of course, give the breed a bad reputation; all pit bulls aren't itching to go for the jugular. And you never read headlines like, for example, "Irish Terrier Mauls Nob Hill Woman in Park Her Family Gave to City," a recent story at SF Weekly. Pit bulls always seem to make it in the headline.
Then again, who are we to poo-poo a little sensationalism?
Anyway, learn how to train your dogs properly, folks, or don't adopt them. Also, don't fear the pit bull breed. They're great dogs, even better companions. Seriously."
Terriers are ornery. Not just pitbull terriers...pretty much all terriers.
Some have the ability to kill.
Few will continue an attack on a human until they have killed him/her, especially when it is a single dog.
While I do believe it to be true that far more dog bites occur each year from small dogs, I also believe it to be true that the pit bull breed, once provoked for whatever reason, often will continue an attack until the victim is dead.
I would never own one, but there are many breeds I would never own.
I do own a couple of SUV's, though. ;)
Love the shot of the Irish. What a great terrier. I like American Stratfordshires as well but your shot is one from a fight and that’s not fair.
‘Pit bulls’ can be as gentle and well behaved as any terrier when properly raised.
I think the KEY to this story is that it took place in EAST PALO ALTO notorious for cop killers, drug dealers, long legged mack daddies, and dogs raised to attack anyone and anything
Yes, but they're ugly as he!! and they fart an awful lot for a dog.
Jack Russell ( ok so now they call them Parson Russell) great dogs
THese dogs can be quite ornery too:

That’s a blue heeler btw. They are way way smarter than a pit, so they don’t get themselves into nearly as much trouble as a pit. But they got a violence streak in them that comes out now and then when they think their turf is being disrespected.
Ha.
Don’t let the face fool ya. That little monster will take your finger right off!
Your admonition about training dogs and treating them right is admirable. However, Pits Bull in East Palo Alto?
What other outcome is there going to be? /s
BTW, I like the little guy on the bottom.
Yep. They're the most vicious, robotic-jawed animal that some choose to actually own as a pet. Even the friendliest Pit or Rottie can turn nasty at the drop of a hat.
I wouldn't own one if you paid me, and I've owned dogs - sometimes 3 at a time f - all my life.
I had one of those. Mine was mean. NOt to people, but to other dogs and especially to non-canine animals.
What a little baby!!!
LOL
They can be absolutely vicious to stuffed animals.
Our blue heeler loves to herd the other dogs. She thinks of them as her own private cattle herd. She used to try and herd the lawn mower, but she now gives it some respect and distance after getting flipped a couple of times when she bit the wheels.
You laugh, but look at the object in its mouth:
The little guy is running away from a pit bull, the pit bull out of whose scrotum he just tore that.
