"Pit bulls always seem to make it in the headline."

Yep. They're the most vicious, robotic-jawed animal that some choose to actually own as a pet. Even the friendliest Pit or Rottie can turn nasty at the drop of a hat.

I wouldn't own one if you paid me, and I've owned dogs - sometimes 3 at a time f - all my life.

That’s not true. Forget the news reports because the dogs get blamed for attacks they aren’t even involved in. It’s media hysteria, and it isn’t right. There are millions of pit bulls alive right now, yet less than a half of a half of a percent of them have ever taken a life. I would say that’s pretty darn good odds, considering all the low-life idiots out there trying to make their dogs mean. It’s a testament to the stability of the temperament of the breed that a couple of pit bull attack stories air daily (some of which cause no injuries but are just too profitable to resist) compared to the 13 thousand other attacks requiring hospitalization by other breeds that go ignored by the media every single day.
