Let me be clear: I don't like Romney. I wouldn't vote for Romney. I hope he never runs for President, and if he tries, I hope he never gets the nomination. In other words -- I don't like Romney!
However, -- I am tired of having to scroll past an anti-Romney ad as the #1 entry on every article lately.
Why does every post start with an anti-Romney ad? As far as I know, he isn't even running for anything right now.
In fact, why should every article begin with an anti-Anyone ad?
I've always considered most Freepers to be very objective and fair-minded.
Has FreeRepublic turned into a one-trick pony? (DestroyRomneyDestroyRomneyDestroyRomney...etc.)
It has become quite tiresome. Could someone please tell me why FreeRepublic is doing this?
Jim Robinson, are you aware that this is happening?
Thank you.
Did I somehow wonder into DU? This anti Romney campaign is how liberals behave. What’s next, ban moderate republican posts from this board? I think people can make up their own mind as to who they support without seeing these anti romney ads on every thread.
It’s overkill.
I get a ping to combat their nonsense every other day or so. Some of them are posting on this very thread.
The payroll has definitely been slimmed down, but if we don’t nip them in the bud, they’ll go right back to undermining all of us in any way they can. They are quite an insidious bunch.
If it takes a banner at the top of every thread to stop them, I’m all for it.
The Huckster’s political future is dead.
Dead and gone.
The GOP appears to be determined to stuff this man ——I was going to say down our throats, but that isnt the way to stuff a turkey, they stuff it up the other end, and that is what the GOP is trying to do with Romney.
You mean turning strength into abject stupidity.
I posted my own thread on this a few minutes after this one - it was locked and pointed here. I had checked the topic but you beat me to it by a few minutes. I was driven to start the thread not because of any feeling for or against Romney - I just think the off-topic adds (which are huge and take up the whole first page of every thread) are ruining the functionality of Free Republic. If Jim and the powers that be feel the need to make the FR all about Romney bashing can they at least do it with a small banner at the top of every page or something less obtrusive.
Here is my post from the other thread.

Enough all ready with the Romney ads. Is the Free Republic “the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web” or is it just a forum for anti-Romney adds? I understand that those who run the FR don’t like Romney - Great, I’m not a big fan either but does every page of the Free Republic have to start with an Anti-Romney add. The FR makes a big deal of not accepting advertising but the Romney blurb on every page is as annoying as the worst pop-ups anywhere else. Want to read a post about the Global Warming scandal? - first you have to scroll through a page of anti-Romney. Want to see what “Dubai’s Dilemma” is or “Why Is China Engaged In A Military Build-Up In The Himalayas?” Click on the story and what do you get - A full page of anti-Romney before you can get to the posts. ENOUGH - ENOUGH - If a story has a Romney angle or a 2012 election angle the FR Romney is the Anti-Christ Crowd will be sure to be there and post their prepackaged anti-Romney posts (complete with pithy graphics and photoshop) That’s just swell lots of Freepers agree - But we do have to read about Mitt Romney on every thread on the Free Republic?
Of course, it's not our site--we know that. But is this going to go on until Romney loses the nomination, or gets elected and then is out of office?
If this is going to happen until the primary cycle begins, or looks like it, I'll simply check back in once a month or so until the coast is clear.
The site owner is completely entitled to do whatever he wants on his site. I'm completely entitled to look elsewhere for conservative news, and I may like it better at one of the places I find, where they respect my intelligence enough to believe I know a fake conservative politician without it being screamed at me constantly.
Thanks to the owner and admins for a great site. If you choose to ruin it, that's your choice, as it is my choice to not visit.
Free Republic is here to defend democracy, not to practice it.
You’re free to post Pro-Romeny crap, and the people who run this PRIVATE board, are free to put an anti-Romney ad at the top of every thread.
The hatred for Romney is mild compared to the hatred that FR had for Rudy.
If you weren’t around for the Rudy threads, well let me tell you it was a bloodbath.
Many longtime freepers who supported Rudy were gone.
From another locked thread:::
>>>>>>But we do have to read about Mitt Romney on every thread on the Free Republic?<<<<<<
Actually, no you don’t.
I'm not sure that the SBT is 100% Christian. Could be some hedonists that would be looking for conversion.
Huckabee is a joke, but if he ever picked up any steam, I’m sure the Mods, would put up ads attacking that RINO as well.
Can the purge begin yet???

...since you apparently love Slick Romney so much, why not hang out on a RINO site, instead of trying to trash the conservatives on this site,...
= = = = = =
Bedford Forrest, nothing in my post suggests in the least that I “love Slick Romney.” Neither have I ever in any way, at any time, trashed conservatives.
Your mindless vitriol is not appreciated. Goodbye to you.
That's silly McGruff. I would have done it myself. I took another tack, complaining in context on several threads. I've been here since 1998 and this is the first time that we have been insulted with such an ad campaign. Indeed it's JimRob's site. I've supported it with as much as a couple thousand through a recurring automatic donation. I'm rethinking the frequency and size of that donation.
I agree that the Huckster is a JUANnabie and therefore is toast. However, I believe that there are many latent Huckster supporters still present on this site.
We are simple minded now Jim.

I couldn’t agree more with reminding people is all for socialist ideals. It can’t be stated enough.
