Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News.
AD Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.
Weis coached Notre Dame for five years and leaves with a 35-27 record. He has told friends in South Bend he has at least six offers from NFL teams to become their offensive coordinator.

It’s a lot better than it used to be when teams could have 100+ scholarships and teams would recruit players just so they wouldn’t go to a rival school, even though they’d be second or third on the depth chart.
It’s because of the lower number of scholarships that Boise State, TCU and Cincinnati can field competitive teams.
Some speculation in NFL blogs that Weiss will move south a few miles to Indianapolis as OC for the Colts. What a better way to rehab your coaching career than working with Manning?
KC Chiefs.
Why would he even consider it?
I saw that after I posted. You can read something three times and never see any problems.
I thought the highest possible passer rating was 158.3???
CA....
OK, my bad...they utilize a different formula for the college game...
CA....
Seems unlikely after what the Colts went through to get Tom Moore back this year.
I am a Colts and ND fan, and Weis as the Colts OC is a bad move. He is a Patriots product and those are two completely different organizations. I am glad to see Weis leave ND and didn’t like him from the start. Most of his press conferences were all about his own view of what a great coach he was. We don’t need that kind of ego (or bruised ego now) with the Colts.
Brian Kelly - Cinncinnati
Bob Stoops - Oklahoma
Gary Patterson - TCU
Butch Davis - North Carolina
Stoops!? And here was me thinking I couldn’t route against ND any more than I already did.
ND will be back. USC went through a similar period under Larry Smith, John Robinson (2) and Paul Hackett...then came Pete Carroll, and the rest is history.
I am scratching my head wondering why Stoops would leave OK for ND where the fans are just as demanding yet he would be handicapped by NDs much tighter admission requirements.
Untrue. USC has a lower admission acceptance rate than ND:
USC accepts 21.9% of applicants and Note Dame accepts 26.7%

I don’t know, considering he was unhappy with his current admission standards.
look at the average SAT scores for the two schools. i'm sure ND's is higher.
the fact is that offensive players consistently score higher on aptitude tests. offensive linemen tend to be the smartest.
That used to be a favorite rationale, but not anymore, USC has a lower admission acceptance rate than ND:
USC accepts 21.9% of applicants and Note Dame accepts 26.7%

My prediction: Al Golden, from Temple.
When my oldest son was looking at colleges, he wanted to go to Pepperdine. I laughed and said, “Yeah, sure... don’t forget your surfboard. Forget it.”
I spent a little time in Ok. about 40 years ago and the folks in western Ok. were as fine as any I’ve ever met. Hard to go out of state if you have a great coach.
But as a coach, the Catholic draw alone is still strong.
Were a great coach to go there again it would help.
Course Myers is staying in Florida.
Listen, Gainsville is a great place to live.
