“My sister had an accident this week, run off the road by some Amish kids (true).”
Those Amish in their souped up carriages...watch out for em...were the Amish playing mailbox derby? Don’t know about her exposure on a mailbox, especially on private property, but the sheriff will come knocking if you wipe out a public sign, pole or hydrant...don’t ask me how I know ;^)
Well, some of those Amish crank up the carriages with too much horsepower. I even saw one with Clydesdales once and tricked out axles that bounced up an down. Durn Amish kids...
“Souped up carriages...” lol. No, she was on her way to my house (at 1am) and rounded a turn in the road. Dark, very rainy, narrow winding country road. And there were 4 kids on their scooters (very popular here among the Amish) abreast, on her side of the road. It was either hit them or swerve into the ditch and of course she swerved. Hit the mailbox, she wasn’t going very fast so it just messed up the grill a bit but the box went through the glass. I’d been by that way about a half hour before and saw 2 of the kids in the road, luckily I had enough time for them to get out of my way. A guy helping us move saw them earlier too.
We’re just very grateful that she’s ok and more so, that she didn’t hit any of them.
It really sucks though. She’s basically homeless (our mom died in June, she’d been living Mom with her son since her divorce, there is no insurance and we had to sell the house just before losing it to foreclosure. Sister’s car was stolen in Sept, never recovered, so she was driving our Mom’s car. And she lost her state job last spring, due to cutbacks. So she has no home, no money, no job and for the time being, no car.) The two of them are living in my living room until the house sale money comes out of escrow in March, then she’ll have enough $$ to get a place.) On the plus side, she got a job Wed. But transportation is going to be a bit tricky for awhile.
