A bums life...nothing to be proud of.

The guy is 48. I think his school loans would have been paid off long ago. And remember, a “good” school in 1983 would have cost him $6k a year, and thats before any aid.
So, I think the educated parasite argument is probably not applicable.
Weird, anti social dude argument seems pretty valid though.

This idiot has the freedom and right to live his lifestyle, if one could even call it that, but he is absolutely useless as a human being and to a society. As far as any of us are concerned, what difference is it if he is alive or dead? Speaking of death, who is going to take care of his burial? The trash can and dumpster? or tax payers money?

Got a nice lantern there. So is he living off of savings???? Nah didn’t think so. He basically steals what he wants from the garbage and lives as a hermit. Please don’t come to town when the winds are blowing my direction

“but let him get a can’t-ignore toothache, major medical problem, etc. and see where he runs to.”
He’ll just pull his own teeth, ala Tom Hanks in that movie where he is stranded on an island. Maybe he figures if he has a major medical problem, he’ll just die.

Mixed feelings. You can certainly ‘live off the land’, even in a place like Moab, which is very desolate.
I’d even say that was a better life than most in the cities, where you can practice self-sufficiency. This isn’t it though.

A East Tennesee man lived in a cave for about four decades starting I think in the early 1930’s along the Holston River. He held down gainfull employment and became a well known folk hero of sorts. He did it by choice not in any form of protest it seems but just because it was practical, a simple life, and he liked it.
