Adam Lambert Shocks American Music Awards With Racy “For Your Entertainment”
Rolling Stone ^ | 11/22/09 | staff

Adam Lambert aimed for the kind of controversy Britney Spears and Madonna are known for generating, completely stunning the audience at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre and the millions watching the American Music Awards live on ABC.

Glambert definitely delivered on his promise of a “sexy” performance as he closed the live show with simulated oral sex from a male backup dancer, a brief make-out session with his male keyboardist and a giant mirrored prop so the audience could see the looks on their own shocked faces.

Rolling Stone has learned that producers weren’t informed about the guy-on-guy kiss in advance, and after the show, Lambert told RS the musician he kissed is a straight man.

Lambert also told RS that if ABC decides to cut any parts of his performance for the West Coast rebroadcast, it would amount to “discrimination.”

Lambert strutted across the Nokia Theatre stage, dragging some of his dancers outfitted in S&M gear by harnesses and stopping to caress the legs of others — both men and women. As his band turned out the techno-crunch of his debut single from For Your Entertainment (out tomorrow), Lambert bounced around the stage in black leather, hitting his signature high notes. During the bridge, he sat on a chair below a female stripper on a pole, then made his way back across the stage, singing, “Do you like what you see? Let me entertain you until you scream” as the lyrics to his song (”Can you handle what I’m about to do?”) came off like a direct challenge to the audience.

Britney Spears and Madonna stole headlines for their lip-lock at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, which was also where Madonna turned heads for humping the floor during her rendition of “Like a Virgin.”

Watched the video. This guy does not have a pop music voice. Its more suited for Broadway. The most disturbing thing to me about all this is his threat to sue if the AMAs edited the West Coast broadcast. Is there any clearer confirmation of his agenda? I mean, we’ve all seen crazy kissing, actions, etc. on the AMAs, Grammy’s, etc. But no one has threatened to sue for discrimination. That threat has likely changed live performances forever.

You think that is bad, try and watch the video. You know it is bad when ABC cuts away to an extended shot of the audience within the first 30 seconds of the performance. With the exception of kissing a dancer, the things he did would have been in appropriate from a straight performer, too.

Exactly. Freddy Mercury and Rob Halford never did anything like that onstage, even though everybody knew they were gay, and guess what, nobody cared, because they relied on their talent, rather than trying to be “in your face” about it.

gAyBC wouldn't care. gAyBC turns every show into a homopromo if they can.

LOL..my household feels the same way about Taylor Swift. At least she is clean cut...for now. Carrie Under’wear’ really came out of her shell lately.
Whitney and Mary J...I think they go on drugs just to make “come backs” when they get clean.

“I just wonder what advice Freddie Mercury would have for Lambert(?)”

How about “Don’t alienate over half of your audience bub”

The thing about Freddie is that kind of like George Michael, the rumors abounded but women still dig the fantasy. Freddie was a sexy guy and his talent was amazing and erotic. Women threw their undies on stage, even pretty much KNOWING he was gay. It seems that Adam is one of those anti-women homosexuals and sorry, most women fans can overlook the gay thing but don’t punch them in the face either. He is making a HUGE mistake with his career and he will most likly chalk it up to “discrimination” and “gay hating” like the other morons who just don’t get it.

Freddie loved women too. Maybe not on a Saturday night in a club, but he surrounded himself with the ‘love of his life’ whom he carried on a relationship with for six years before coming out to her. She remained his ‘wife’ (as he described her) for the rest of his life. Even leaving his fortune, home and beloved ‘children’ (cats) to her as well as becoming Godfather to her son.

Adam is pushing away the bulk of his audience. Women might know he is gay. Hell, we all *knew* during American Idol, but that doesn’t mean anyone wants it in their face. He is certainly entitled to be who he is and wants to be, but don’t be surprised if you aren’t a superstar rock guy. Even Tony Curtis understood you had to keep the illusion of possibly being their lover. That fantasy is what spurs women to be fans.

Ok, droned on for too long. I just find it either niave, dumb or bull headed and ill advised from homosexual activists. Either way, he’s screwing up big time.

Yep, you’re right on target. He’s throwing his own money right out the window. In a few years he’ll just be singing in gay clubs, wondering where all the fame went.

i just hate that he is compared to Freddie Mercury... of course, i knew Freddie Mercury's orientation, but i didn't feel that he threw it in my face... it was about the music and performance with FM... not only did he have an exquisite voice--he seemed strong... he had a strength about him...

Yes yes and yes. I ADORE Freddie, have forever. And Adam being compared to Freddie is driving me crazy. I think the comparison is how to be a rockstar and be gay. But Adam comes off as a brat compared to Freddie. I hate to get all weepy, but Freddie definitely had an aura about him. That quiet strength that was partly upbringing in a difficult time as a child as well as having the talent behind the voice. Freddie was talented in more ways than just his superb voice. He was a musical genius IMO.

Totally agree. I summed it up as a total waste of talent, and a gay pride night and then finally...goodbye Adam! I would have bought his cd but not after that exhibition.
