Where is the cord broken? Is the ‘adapter box’ a transformer?

That is an expensive cord. The one I use might cost $50 or so. My answer is to use ebay, you can find them for less.

Give up, get one online. I got one just recently. They are expensive I know but I paid about $80 on line.

I remember looking for a new one and being floored by the price - for my machine it was about $90. I went home, searched Ebay and got one for $25 with free shipping. If you can deal with being without the laptop for a while, it’s one alternative.

just buy an aftermarket at like Walmart for about $80 bucks. That’s what I did when my HP laptop cord went bad (after 5 years of use.)

http://www.sunvalleytek.com/

Used this vendor about 2 weeks ago to help a friend replace a laptop power supply. Working perfectly.
Happy shopping!

Don’t open it. There’s nothing you can fix in there and you might get hurt.

If it is a broken wire just as it comes out of the power supply, make a “splint” out of plastic or wood and tape it up to keep it straight. I fixed one that way.

Make a careful note of the specs on your adapter. Go to a second hand store like Goodwill or Salvation Army and rummage around for a replacement for $5 or so.

All of the above advice, but it seems that no one mentioned
radio shack they have power cords with transformers with an
adjusting voltage and amps. These guys will get your notebook
powered up in the store or no sale.

1) You could go to Radio Shack and get a universal adapter and buy the correct connector.
2) Use a Dremel with a cut off wheel and go around the edge. Be careful as the wheel can shatter (wear safety glasses at least) or it can slip and cut you bad. Even if you fix the problem you still have to put the case back together and black electrical tape will do the job but look like crap.

I recommend option #1.

I made a plastic “case cracker” for opening up plastic cases that have had their seams ultrasonically welded.

Basically, you need an 1/8 inch thick flat, rectangular piece of hard teflon-like plastic about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide. Cut/grind down the edges with a file to make a “V” shaped knife-edge (I usually do this to one of the long edges and one of the short edges, leaving the remaining two edges untouched).

To use the case cracker, just place the “V” shaped edge into the seam you want to split, and give it a twist. The seams usually pop open pretty easy, but some of them require a little more patience and work.

Cheers

I am on my 7th HP 90w adapter in 1 1/2 years. My problem has been the dongle as they call it. The main part that plugs into your computer to charge it. One I was able to fix, it had broken wires and I had to take apart the end and connect the wires back together. I hate these stupid adapters. But just a word of warning about splicing the wires, if they move they start to short out and sizzle. Out of the 7 adapters, 6 of them have been because of the end. I did find these adapters on line for $14.99 w/free shipping about a month or so ago at buy dot com and I bought 2 of them and the first dongle is already bent.
Like I said, I hate these stupid adapters.

Try Tigerdirect.com. They are very cheap on everything and the prices on their laptop power cords run from about $45.00 on up, with most being in the range of 60 to 70 bucks. Good luck.
