Linguist reveals I only spoke in Klingon to my son for three years Mail Online

Star Trek blade seized The Sun News

Deadly ... officer with 5-foot blade

(edit)

Officers seized the three-handled sword ? which has huge pointed blades at either end ? at a home in Gloucester.

It was shown yesterday at the start of a five-week national knife amnesty. Cops hope 30,000 blades will be handed in, with owners free from prosecution. (edit)

He said: “It is a particularly nasty weapon which could easily take someone’s head off.”

Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker launched the amnesty in St John’s Wood, North West London. He said: “We are determined to get the scourge of knife crime off our streets.”

Montaigne’s family spoke nothing but Latin to him for the first years of his life. Of course a knowledge of Latin is far more useful than a knowledge of Klingon.

to see if he could pick up the alien language

Problem is Klingon isn't an "alien" language. It's an earth language made up by earthlings. He would have had the same results with German, French, Chinese, or any other language he did not know and had to try to teach from a book to a baby.

Article from 1996, when the kid was 2:

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/display.php?id=10873

Here’s the song that the father sang to his son as a lullaby:

“May the empire endure, and may our emperor endure
We serve him, so that he may honor us
Our empire is wonderful, and if anyone disagrees,
We will crush them beneath our boots!”

No surprise that this idiot’s Facebook page lists the Democrats and The Rachel Maddow Show as faves.

And here’s a comment he made in 2002. (Wonder what he thinks of O’s economy?):

“Tuesday, December 31, 2002
As of Friday, January 3, 2003, I am no longer at Requisite Technology. Currently unemployed, looking for work. It’s the worst unemployment rate since 1991 (thanks, W.), hell of a time to be looking for a job. “

And in a case of tragic irony, the child is now a huge fan of both Lost in Space and the original Battlestar Galactica, and constantly refers to the most famous Vulcan character of his father's favorite show as "Dr. Spock".

The father is inconsolable.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

IF you expose babies to two or more languages their language development is usually delayed.

two of my brother's sons were only spoken to in Spanish by their parents until they were about 4... (my brother's first language is English, but he can speak Spanish, his wife's first language is Spanish, but she can speak English)... both boys are now fluent in both languages... it did not take them long to pick up English... believe me, the rest of us in the family were concerned that the boys were only going to know Spanish... my brother kepting telling us not to worry about it... it worked out in the end...

But to expose a child only to a language no one around him is speaking is irresponsible.

My wife speaks to our infant son in Russian, her native language. Being that we attend a Russian church and half my son's relatives live in Ukraine, he'll probably get a chance, at some point in his life, to use this second language.

It sounds like child abuse to me but if he wanted to see if his son would speak an invented language why didn’t he pick Tolkien’s Elven language? Tolkien was a linguist too and I’m sure he made Elven much more complete than Klingon is.
