When I was little and my folks were working, in college and totally broke, my FAVORITE meal was when we’d have ‘Breakfast for Supper.’ Mom made the BEST waffles with bacon and chopped apples in them, then we’d smother them in applesauce. We were totally poor, but Man, life was GOOD! :)
I remember waffles for dinner as well, my father made them from his mother’s recipe, buttermilk, and the old iron without the non-stick coating we had back then, they came out so light and crispy!! Oooooh, memory-food, it’s lovely, I haven’t thought of these in forever, thanks for the jog!
Sounds like a fond memory. My Mother didn’t cook. It was below her. That, and Laundry so we learned early on to do for ourselves. I was cooking professionally at sixteen for a major National restaurant chain back in the early to mid sixties.
I have nothing but contempt for those whose kitchen equipment inventory is comprised of a single tea kettle, or pan to boil water for those instant boxed things purchased off the shelf at the SuperMarket.
College Dormitory, and similar situations exempted of course.
Everybody needs to learn to cook whether they like it or not. There are times the food factories are flooded, and the waffles just aren’t available. ;)
You’re making me hungry! LOL!
