Women’s carbon print is small but climate change hits them harder

Women have a lower carbon footprint than men but are more vulnerable to the adverse effects of global warming, according to the United Nations’ State of World Population report.

Women drive and fly much less than men and purchase fewer carbonintensive goods. The research found that women in industrialised countries were more likely to buy ecologically friendly and organic foods, were more likely to recycle rubbish and more interested in efficient energy use.

The report quoted a US research finding that women responded more positively than men to advertising for products that companies claimed were less detrimental to the environment. Women were also generally less likely than men to trust governments and corporations to solve environmental problems and more likely to want to take action personally to address these. The difference in attitude to environmental problems was more pronounced at higher income levels.

Last year in Sydney a survey of suburban residents about environmental sustainability found it was easier to attract women to co-operative and socially focused initiatives. Men were less likely to get involved in sustainability and were more drawn to technical and business solutions rather than personal action when discussing environmental issues.

The report also found that dietary differences contributed to women’s lower carbon footprint. It said: “Not only do women eat less in proportion to their body size but at least in some countries they consume a more vegetable-oriented and less meat-based diet.”

Men tend to eat much more meat. In Denmark, men eat 139 grams of meat daily on average compared with women, who eat 81 grams.

The report concluded that climate change “threatens to amplify the inequities between women and men.

This article is amazing. Women are treated unfairly. We are destroying the plant with carbon, the basis of all life. Meat eaters are bad. Men are consumer pigs. Men in rich countries are harming women in poor countries. Pay inequities. Women recycle more. I can almost see the tear stains on the author's monitor.

So....they’re saying that women are more gullible than men?

Not sure what to make of that.

Hey!!! I resent that!!! I like v8 engines, I like a toasty house in the winter and a cold one in the summer. I like meat. I celebrate earth day by leaving every light in the house on !!!!! Heck I do that every day anyway. If I had the money I’d have a collection of cars, planes and motorcycles.Leave it to a liberal to be sexist!!!

Global warming means never having to take your lady out for a steak dinner.

I’ll let my wife know that I’m protecting all women.

So....they’re saying that women are more gullible than men?

I think they're saying that thanks to the Taliban and their ideological twins in other countries, women overall are less free than men. The point seems to be that this is a good thing (in the eyes of liberals).

Perhaps while Pelosi kills Granny to save on medical care for the elderly so she can give more tax dollars to the UAW,

... and Obama lets more middle-aged women drop from breast cancer so he can save on mammograms and give more tax dollars to ACORN,

... Al Gore can abort more babies (at taxpayer expense) so we don't have to raise them at a greater "cost" to taxpayers and Gore can give the savings to the Taliban to keep women in their place and save the planet.

Next year, I may for the first time in my life vote party line without much thought. Somehow, the Democrat party, which used to be patriotic in their own way, has been hijacked by evil.

Legal obsession with “carbon” creates all the excuse you need to control absolutely every aspect of anyone’s life.

The biggest thing anyone does to affect their “footprint” is to have kids. Don’t worry, they’ll get to that one as well.

Pass carbon legislation, and they’ll have all the tools they need to turn you into a bondslave. You’ll vote it in, but you’ll never be allowed to vote it out once its in.

Or maybe you won’t vote it in. They’ll do it with a treaty that overrides the constitution, which is no big deal in any case once less than half the country gives a rip about the constitution they can do anything they want and no one will dare to stop them.

Once the carbon laws come in, politics will be reduced to arguing about the fine print, and the exact formulas for calculating your allowable “footprint”, with Repubs and Dems arguing over who is more for the little guy. No one will dare to throw it out once its in.

Male bashing garbage. Married men commute usually commute further than their wives do, if the wife is employed at all, but the travel distance has to be counted to both of them, as both of them are part of the decision and benefit. Men are likely to do more business travel. I wonder if the authors ascribe long-haul truckers’ fuel to their personal use. The stay-close-to-home elderly population is mostly women, the men having died earlier. Maybe we should blame women for living longer? Men are blamed for being bigger and eating more, so it’s only fair.

Now let's not get hysterical. If I had to pare down to 8 power tools I'd cry.

I think I’d get up and change channels before I’d give up the gun. Somethings are worth even the greatest of sacrifices.
