in this problem, onions cost $.60/lb (which I personally think is cheap depending on whether they’re Vidalias or regular onions).

I am too stupid to figure it out without at least ONE number.
We made Sweet Potatoes =S
Onions = O
And Apples = A
Without the cost of any of the produce, I don’t get it.
And yes they want the cost of each kind of produce.
Do I make sense?

The train will arrive at the station at 3:10.
To: netmilsmom
Let A be the cost of a pound of apples, S the cost for a pound of sweet potatos, N be the cost for a pound of onions.
Then make the equations: 9S = 6A, S = 2N, A = .24 + N.
Then just plug A of the third equation into the first equation, then the resulting S in terms of N into the second and you are done.
