This 1988 comment by Myrna Loy impressed on me the depth and tenure of Hollywood's devotion to socialist politics. Sadly, not much has changed in the intervening twenty years,

No big surprises there.

I always thought she was a doll.

Well she was obviously a dedicated leftist political activist of her own accord. At least in the ‘50s you still had Conservatives in Hollywood who could be open about it. Try that today and you risk ever working again (or getting work to begin with). For whatever their complaints about McCarthy, they’ve spent 50+ years hence making sure those not of the leftist mindset are not to be let in the door (note Loy’s comment about not letting Republicans in). But they should be called exactly what they are... intolerant fascists (and their hypocrisy is epic).

Someone who’s paid to look good while reading another person’s thoughts is only rarely a good source of political analysis.

I always thought she was a boor on the screen. As to her beauty, my memory serves me to recall that there were many females on the big screen who were more interesting to look at possessing far greater sex appeal as well.

Her negative comments on Gary Cooper and Clark Gable are as transparent as ever and cowardly as well. They were both not only Republicans, but long deceased by 1988. Her comments about Reagan and Republicans in general were supposed to be funny but miss the mark pitifully.

As for her acting, she was not nearly bad enough to ruin the movies she was in which I enjoyed such as "The Best Years of Our Lives'.

Hardly an endorsement of her work, I would rather watch paint dry.

Roosevelt demonized the Republicans all during the Depression. The party never could defend itself as being the friend of “big business” and rich fat cats. Republicans have been treated like second-class citizens by the left-wing media for years. They were never able to argue for the value of capitalism in the face of all the Democrat bromides. Their lack of spine has brought us a communist president.

I LOVE the Thin Man movies. Myrna Loy gets a pass from me but I wonder if she ever talked politics with Communists or Socialists? That is who the Dems are now.

I met Myrna Loy at a charity event in New York in 1988 when her biography was released and I have a signed copy of the book. She was exceptionally charming and sexy, even at her age. I spoke to her briefly — until a PR guy screamed at me shouting, “No questions. I said no questions and I meant it.” Myrna just smiled and we sat quiet for a few seconds and then continue talking, but with no question.
