'Gidget' Director Paul Wendkos Dies

Paul Wendkos, who directed the 1959 surfing classic "Gidget" and two sequels, died early Thursday at his home in Malibu...

His feature film credits include 1961's "Angel Baby," with George Hamilton and Mercedes McCambridge, and 1971's "The Mephisto Waltz," starring Alan Alda and Jacqueline Bisset...

I remember that film ‘Mephisto Waltz.’ as a teenager. Very stylish, atmospheric....and scary.

The movie Gidget singlehandedly revolutionized surfing. Surfers in the US numbered in the thousands before Gidget appeared on the big screen but exploded into the millions shortly thereafter.

Listening to Greg Noll "critique" the movie and the aftermath is hilarious.

Yes. That’s the film I most remember from him - by far. It’s from a novel by Fred Mustard Stewart. The movie definitely did cut the Mustard for me.
