Meep! Nonsense Word Goes Viral, Gets Students in Trouble

Massachusetts High School Principal Threatens to Suspend Students Caught Meeping

MEEP!

Don't know what it means? Don't worry -- most people over the age of 22 don't either.

But the nonsense word -- which apparently started with the 1980s Muppet character Beaker -- is causing a lot of teeth-gnashing for adults at one Massachusetts high school. They have gone so far as to threaten suspension for students caught meeping.

But just what does it mean to "meep?" No one really seems to know -- even those who use it as part of their daily vocabulary.

According to UrbanDictionary.com, meep "can mean whatever you want it to mean."

Yeah, that clears it up.

Bob Thompson, a pop culture professor at Syracuse University, said he first heard students meep about a year ago during a class screening of a television show.

"Something happened and one of them said 'Meep,'" he said. "And then they all started doing it."

The meeps, he said, came from all of the students in the class in rapid-fire succession. When he asked them what that meant, they said it didn't really mean anything.

Apparently there are a lot of folks who, in "growing up," forgot what it was like to be a kid.

You can spot them by their tendency to search for the deeper meaning in a word like "meep."

They probably also iron their underwear every day, and use lots of starch.

Reminds me of the cartoon “Recess” an episode where the kids made up the word “whomp”. The principal and teachers were astonished and the kids were being punished. Finally a sensible school board official realized it was foolish.

Maybe our eloquent teleprompter in chief can ‘meep’ when he gives a ‘shout out’. Perhaps at the next state dinner he could pour some of his Colt 45 on the floor and say it’s for his dead homies?

I guess “meep” could refer to the gigantic meep these meeping administrators have shoved up their meeping meeps.

So it’s not the meaning of the word that is the crux, it is the disrespect and rudeness of the students using it.

Meep!

Was the four letter word MASS? Due to many not being able to pronounce Massachusetts?

At some point, old folks must come to realize that kids do little more than look for things to distract them from boredom. Oh, and that they’re all occasionally morons and naturally follow eachother like sheep. It’s not some big conspiracy.

Reminds me of a few years ago when kids would start competitively chanting - Tastes Great!! Less Filling!!!

Which, in turn, reminds me of football games at the U. of Washington, where the student and "adult" side of the stadium would trade cheers ("Go!" "Huskies!")

The Miller Lite folks attempted tape a commercial based on the concept. The "adult" side obediently yelled "Tastes Great!" The unruly student side, however....

Suffice it to say that the taping stopped abruptly.

“Schmock! Schmock!” - Steve Allen <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I remember one show where he came flying over the audience suspended from the ceiling in a bird costume, yelling the above. The audience all had birdseed under their seats and pelted him with it. Or the time he dove into 1,000 gallons of Jello, yelling “Schmock! Schmock!”. Going beyond his funny bits, he was one of the funniest and most talented show hosts I’ve ever seen.

“The Road Runner vocalizes only with a signature sound, “beep, beep”, and an occasional tongue noise. The “beep, beep” was recorded by Paul Julian.”
