I just let an anniversary go by unnoticed. I became a member of Free Republic on November 8, 1999. At that point in my life, I was a sophomore in college. Now, I'm a youngish professional with more than my fair share of grey hair already, and less than 8 months from reaching the "big" three-zero birthday.
First, I want to thank Jim Robinson and all those who maintain this wonderfully addictive website. I get most of my news off of here. It is such a clearinghouse for what's going on in there world
But more than that, it's a place where conservatives of many stripes to come and communicate in an online community.
Since that time, we've been through the 2000 election contest, 9/11, two wars, the deaths of a historic pope who helped bring down Soviet communism and the great President Reagan, and the election of the most left-wing president in our history.
I partially credit my conversations on FR's Religion Forum with helping me become more serious in my Catholic faith. I've met a lot of great Catholics on here. Thank you for your contributions, and for standing up for our faith.
I don't want to make this too long, but I hope Free Republic is still around ten years from now, and that our deep pride in our country, which is more than apparent, will help preserve it for future generations.
I’m a 98er too! Jim has done great work for pro-life.
Yeah, JimRob's got a lower Freeper number than I do. :=) I was a bit late to get into the single-digit club. There was something of a mad dash to register at the end of 1998.
LOL .... I started with a WebTv w/ NO cut& paste. Used to run out and buy WashTimes, WashPost, NYTimes and WSJ. Bring em home, cut out articles and attach to clipboard and manually type in all the articles.
Unnngh!
They used to publish that Freeper number along with sign-up date. I remember mine to be #72.
n00B
n00b!
:-)
Do you know what occurred to me the other day? It was the faint memory of some jackass on here years ago trying to sabotage the website with all kinds of crazy nonsense. Anyone else remember that?
If I recall correctly, your Freeper number showed up on your profile page when you moused over "In Forum". It may still do that, I'll have to check. I believe that mine's 43.
Imagine who we all might be if we never found FR.
I had to go look. I guess I am coming on on 12 years in about 20 days. Time flys.
Over 11 years for me. Signed up after about 6 months of lurking. I get a kick out of thin skinned posters complaining today. The early crowd was a tough one.
At least we don't see too many of the "Testing - do not reply threads" anymore.
It looks like the Freeper number has been replaced by your name with a ‘~’ in front of it.
Another '98 "class member" here. Jeff Head - you beat me by only 4 days :)
You beat me by 2 days!
Ooooh, yeah. I remember trying to work up the courage to make my first post. They'd flame you for "ditto" back then...
It’s been fun, hasn’t it?
Worst Opus ever! ;-)
Gratz and her is to ten more!
Worst Opus ever! ;-)
Gratz and here is to ten more!
10 years in cyber-time is like 30 years on human time?
