Real-time 4wheel drive problem

TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS:
Does anyone out there have any experience with Honda's "real-time" 4wheel drive?

My son has a 1998 CR-V EX. Says the real-time is starting to go out on him. Costly to repair.

Can this be disabled, basically turning the vehicle into a front-wheel only drive?

Thanks for any input y'all have.

You can possibly pull the drive shaft from the transaxle to the rear differential and see what effect that has on it.

My husband’s input.

The computer will go haywire. Each transaxle has speed sensors that communicate with the computer for various functions.
Bad idea.

He can overide the rear by disabling the commands. Thats the only way the computer will still function properly. Otherwise the computer will be trying to analyze false information that is necessary for other functions of operation.

Tell your hubby thanks.
Might be worth a try.
I also heard that from another source.

That thread is kinda long, so you’ll probably have to hunt through it. It started out as one problem and then changed to disabling the 4WD.
