The call came into the 911 dispatcher: "I don't want to hurt anybody. I'm drunk."
And with that, Mary Strey, 49, of Granton, reported herself as a drunken driver about three miles northeast of Neilsville in central Wisconsin.
In the 911 call, Strey said she wanted to report a drunken driver and the dispatcher asked if she was behind the suspect vehicle. "I am them,"

I agree Rudeboy. Hopefully the judge can show some leniency.
I think they should cut her some slack for her honesty. I'm not a government program sort of guy, but I'm O.K. with some sort of transportation assistance for folks in this woman's situation. It's a whole lot better than the alternative.
And we have to face facts. As Obama's destruction of our country continues, there's going to be a whole lot more drunk people out there ...
WGN had the 911 tape on this evening. The anchors couldn’t help but snicker a bit. Just goes to show ya how many absolute morons are on the road with us. Having a huge tank of a Silverado with a V-8 makes me feel a bit safer than those driving around in the clown cars. The bigger the better. More steel between me and the morons.
I think giving someone who stops and reports themselves an option of taking a cab ride home... on the whole I think that’s not a bad option. Here’s somebody out there driving drunk that realizes they that they are dangerous. So they have an option of stopping— having realized that they’ve made a bad judgment— but have a chance to fix it. They can stop and call some cell number. It doesn’t have to be (and probably shouldn’t be) 9-1-1, but it could be something where they get a cab ride from wherever they are and they don’t have to fear a DUI if they do it.
They pay for the cab ride. They pay for the cab ride back the next day to pick up their car. I think this would be better than having so many drunks out on the road every night.
Big or small...we all need to be defensive drivers...
I’m always dodging the sober “Welcome To America” crowd.

She did something stupid, realized she had done something stupid and 'fessed up to it before anyone got hurt. The step of calling herself in makes her an angel compared to the average member of congress.
I agree with you, but I'd be willing to foot the bill on the first taxi cab.
(I've had my health permanently destroyed by a drunk driver and it's personal for me).
Prevention, prevention, prevention. If it takes free taxi rides for drunk drivers, so be it. Better than a life of back pain for some unlucky victim.
Always on defense when driving. Too many complete idiots out there. I think at least half of the drivers are not qualified to be driving at all. I always assume the drivers around me are complete morons, on their cell phones, eating lunch, looking at themselves in the mirror, talking to passengers, unaware of anyone around them. Don’t even get me started on the illegals who can’t even read a sign. Arg.
“Dont even get me started on the..........”
The parking lot at work is a ‘survive the experience, if you can’ sort of thing...
