Soda, pop, cola, soft drink whatever you call it, it is one of the worst beverages that you could be drinking for your health. As the debate for whether to put a tax on the sale of soft drinks continues, you should know how they affect your body so that you can make an informed choice on your own. Soft drinks are hard on your health Soft drinks contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients. However, it is what they do contain that is the problem: caffeine, carbonation, simple sugars or worse, sugar substitutes and often food additives such as artificial coloring, flavoring, and preservatives. A lot of research has found that consumption of soft drinks in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease.

[Two words: chocolate tax.]
That’ll lead to riots. ;-)
It’s the HFCS.

But that is no reason to tax it. Making that association is just plain stupid and greedy. It has nothing to do with keeping you healthy.
With me on the front lines, throwing the molotov cocktails! Tax my chocolate and you DIE!!!
I’ve been drinking “pop” since I was a kid.
I’m 61 now.
If I die tomorrow, at least they’ll know what did me in.
[my daughter heard they’re going to have Pepsi Throwback (aka the crack cocaine of soft drinks) again for the Christmas season, I hope I last until then]
Oh no the sky is falling the sky is falling
Give me a break. I am not an advocate of pop but the fact is they are no worse than the ridiculous energy drinks, frappicinos, and other concoctions out there that are being consumed. Quit trying to tax the every living out of everything you don’t like or agree with. How’s that for a start?
What ever has happened to personal accountability?
You never drink milk, tea, coffee, alcohol in any fashion, energy drinks, fruit juices, or anything other than water?????
I find that more than hard to believe
It's beer for me!
Green Tea and an occasional Guinness but for the most part I try to drink a gallon of water a day.
And you know the contents of the water you consume right?
There are those who would suggest to you that alcohol is also a poison/toxin for your body.
Thanks for the links! I knew that I had read it somewhere, but if someone requested the links, I was toast....
hh
No. It’ll just SEEM like you are living forever.
Yeah, I’ll take health advice from “Dr. Mao”!!!!
Yahoo Health is for men who want to be women, and women who want to be NY liberals.
I’ve drunk enough Diet Coke to float a battleship. I wear the same size pants I did in the 9th grade, and I’m 51 now...so “Dr Mao” can stuff his advice where the sun doesn’t shine, and the wind only blows in one direction!
What should be #1 is the war on drugs.....that is the biggest threat. Marijuana is a gateway drug. People are spending way too much time in blasting soda, candy, hamburgers, etc. and ignoring what should be the emphasis...drug use!
Of course I know alcohol can be considered a toxin/poison. But taken in moderation it's fine.
Don't get me wrong, soft-drinks taken in moderation are also fine...
The problem for most people is that they drink mass quantities of the stuff...
I just can't see drinking something when you are thirsty that doesn't quench your thirst and will do nothing but fill your body with empty calories and make you fat.
Why do that when you can just drink water??
I don’t disagree with you. My tap water has all sorts of chemicals dumped in it by the government to ‘clean up’ the water and protect kids from cavities and any number of other reasons.
I really truly do not care what anyone drinks ( even to excess). I am so sick and tired of the busy bodies of the nanny state trying to regulate and tax what they don’t like. It is the insanity of the slave mentality that even acknowledges a possibility that the government has this right
You don’t want to drink or eat something then don’t do it. The market place will take care of this type of thing
I have a well so my tap water is pretty decent. I have it tested every year, a little high in iron but nothing a filter can't fix.
And iron can be beneficial.
A well -— now that’s a deep subject
