Soda, pop, cola, soft drink — whatever you call it, it is one of the worst beverages that you could be drinking for your health. As the debate for whether to put a tax on the sale of soft drinks continues, you should know how they affect your body so that you can make an informed choice on your own. Soft drinks are hard on your health Soft drinks contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients. However, it is what they do contain that is the problem: caffeine, carbonation, simple sugars — or worse, sugar substitutes — and often food additives such as artificial coloring, flavoring, and preservatives. A lot of research has found that consumption of soft drinks in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease.

And that’s the fact, Jack!!

Beer is good for you, especially a stout. My grandmother drank a couple bottles a day, and she made it to 96!

So does that mean if I stop drinking soda, I’ll live forever?

I don’t think it should be taxed either. I just choose not to drink it. However, this tax is going to affect the poor more than the wealthy. I drink water and I give my one year old homemade apple juice. i m a innur sity public scewl teechur and all my students drink so much soda. These kids are taught how to eat well, but still resist it because fast food is easier. Most of my kids haven’t had a home cooked meal. Middle class and above will simply reduce their soda consumption. Those who receive a gubmint check every month will continue to use our money to buy heavily taxed soda.

Don’t forget caffiene and carbonation, you know how rare carbon is so there’s no reason to expose yourself needlessly.. >S<

Soda contains a lot more than just "sugar and water".

Soda is not healthy at all...

That's why I don't drink diet or regular soda.

I only drink Hansen's all natural soda. It's hardly nutritious but at about a six pack a week, I'm probably not doing too much damage.

There's a lot of Americans out there for whom soda is the only hydration their body receives. My mom is like this. Drinks absolutely nothing but Coca Cola, about 6-8 cans a day.

I can’t DRINK beer, and I’ll be damned if some commie quack named Mao is going to stop me drinking pop. Also, he makes a lot of really wild-ass claims about soft drinks without any attribution or background studies. I’d be having legal take a look at this if I were Coke.

Actually, you can make a decent soda at home with much less sugar. An uncle of mine used to make Birch Beer (non alcoholic) and a cream soda that he sold in his store in the 50’s. As kids, we drank gallons of it. I still have most of my teeth.

Stopped drinking Diet Coke in June. I have counted a bunch of things I feel better about. Blood Pressure, whiter teeth, no bloated feeling, more money!

My mother-in-law’s nickname used to be the Diet Coke Queen. She now has osteoporosis. I don’t think it is a coincidence. She stopped drinking soda about two years ago and her problems have not increased like they had been doing every year. Make sure your mom gets a bone scan.

I choose not to drink it...don’t really care if other people decide to consume it. It’s their bodies. I most definitely don’t think it needs to be taxed.
