Prominent Houston attorney John O'Quinn was one of two men who died this morning when their SUV slammed into a large tree on Allen Parkway after the driver apparently lost control, police said.

"I'm stunned. The community lost one of its biggest assets," said Rick Laminack, who worked with O'Quinn from 1987 until 2006. "He was a great lawyer who shared a lot of his wealth with people who needed help."

And therein lies another intriguing Houston story ... back in 2003, O’Quinn bought the Carousel House, which used to be a Houston architectural landmark of some repute, for said ex-con and the car collection. 29 cars and a million dollars went missing, the ex-con went to jail, and the Carousel House got demolished.

RIP

John O'Quinn also helped those not wealthy such as Virgie Arthur and opposed Howard K. Stern. Odd how those close to HKS end up dead, one after another.

FWIW - I am not Catholic but it always offends me when someone refers to any Democrat as a “devout” Catholic. It is just nonsensical.

RIP O’Quinn.

Sad for him. Texas and America, however, are now a little better off.

Saw that there was discussion in 2004 about a possible run for Governor.

What’s the point in having an ability to excerpt a limited number of words if the article is going to be trimmed to 2 sentences?

Dead rat. Worth billions. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Every state has their “tobacco” lawyer. The one in Minnesota is Mike Ciresi. I believe they kept the records on how much he was paid and how many bill-able hours he charged sealed because the payoff was so outrageous, especially considering a blind monkey could have won in the kanagaroo court they set up for the trial.

Glad he came out of it OK.

You made me laugh. When I was reading through the posts, and found this one of yours and didn't realize you were responding to another poster about a different accident.

When I read your line I thought "He's dead! I guess Flying Circus REALLY doesn't like lawyers."

My sentiments exactly. Hate to see someone die, but I’m not sorry he’s done practicing law.

I’ve met him several times during depositions ... he was never anything but nice and polite.

The local new just reported that neither of the two were wearing their seat belt.

It may have not made a difference in this accident but I am amazed at how many fatal accidents involve, people who should know better, not wearing a seat belt. Recently, in the greater Houston area, two off duty law enforcement officers died in non related single vehicle accidents while not wearing seats belts.
