Girl, 12, is youngest Minnesotan to kill moose
October 23, 2009
Nicollet, Minn (AP) A Minnesota wildlife official confirms that a 12-year-old girl is the youngest Minnesotan to kill a moose in the modern era.
Department of Natural Resources spokesman Lou Cornicelli says Kelly Holmin of Nicollet achieved the distinction earlier this month.
The bull moose had a 58-inch antler spread. Kelly bagged it Oct. 13 on the Gunflint Trail.
She and her father endured a cold week of wind and snow before they saw the 1,100-pound moose about 75 yards away. Kelly dropped it with a single shot.
