I had to put-down Schmeckel Kitty today. He was a remarkably sweet friend to me for 13 years. He had tough luck. We found him nearly starved to death in 1997 at a roadside stand. He looked like a kitten, all bones. We brought him home, cleaned him up, and he became the sweetest, most loving kitty. He had a lot of bumps along the way. His bowel was removed in 2000. We saved him. He was hit by a car in 2006 and lost a rear leg plus got a herniated diaphragm. We saved him. Early this year he went into kidney failure and after some intensive care, we saved him again. He was on several meds plus daily hydration and was doing well until about five days ago. He got really sick. A trip to the vet today showed he was in total kidney failure and was badly anemic. His kidneys finally gave out, but not his great heart. He couldn't walk this AM so we went to the vet where I got the terrible news. He just wore out. But even as I held him and the vet gave him his final injection, he purred and kissed me. Damn. So hard to write this. Hard to see the keyboard.
So he's gone over the Rainbow Bridge. He leaves a hole in my heart and a huge empty space in the house. I promised him I wouldn't let him suffer and I kept my word.
Rest in Peace, Little Schmeckel. 1996 - 2009.
Condolences for your beloved’s cat’s passing.(((((Hugs)))))
*snif-snif*
*sob*
Condolences on the loss of your sweet, cute, fuzzy little buddy. :-(
Wonderful tribute - it made me cry. My heart goes out to you and your family. I know what it’s like to have to put a sick ‘fur baby’ to sleep after so many years (14 yrs. in our case). It’s been five years and I still miss her.
(((Hugs))) and God bless.
His middle name should've been "Lucky."
Godspeed Schmeckel Kitteh!
So sorry for your loss. It was an unselfish, loving act to release your friend - but it does hurt your heart! It sounds like he was lucky to have you (and kitties do “have” us!).
Schmeckie looks like one of the cats we adopeted (well, he adopted us) last Halloween. White beard and all. We call him “Chester Allen LOLcat” because he looks like Chester Arther.
Me and Baby-Cat send our best wishes to you.
God bless you.
You did all you could - all the right things - to take care of the precious life which fate entrusted to you. You did good.
I’m so sorry your precious kitty had to leave too soon. Take comfort in having given him a good life.
Prayers.
You really took great care of that kitty. I pray to God we see our furry friends again one day.....
My deepest sympathies for your loss.
When we undertake to care for these cats, they are in our hands. It is often difficult to know when to let go. Sounds to me like you did exactly what you should have done.
I wish for you that words could ease your grief.
The sun may not be shining today. But it will shine again.
It’s not easy losing a furry friend. You have my utmost sympathy.

Awww...I think schmeckle is an ADORABLE name!!! Where’d the name come from?
I am sorry for your loss.
These little fur babies do make a permanent place in our hearts.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss.
You gave that kitteh many good years.
I’ve always wondered if our pets will be in Heaven. I had to put my cat Scarlett to sleep this past June. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. What was harder was the thought that I’d never see her again, as I’ve always been taught that animals don’t have souls, and when they are gone, they’re gone. We should have a discussion on whether or not our loving pets will see us someday in Heaven.
Wow, are these pictures of all of your kitties!? You sure are blessed!!! They are all beautiful!
