Russinovich's Process Explorer is an excellent upgrade to Task Manager.
Actually, if you are a Windows user, it would behoove you to give the whole Sysinternals web site a good lookover. There's so much good stuff there that Microsquish bought them a couple of years ago.
You do have to invest the effort to learn the language, but the reward is immense: the ability to shove data around automatically on Windows, Mac, and Unix. Automation is what computers are for (ultimate goal; important subgoal is replacing the dinosaur media).
What was that about ccleaner not being free anymore?
I work PT for Cyberdefender and our techs from all over have come to the conclusion that MWB IF ever someone buys it and treats it like an AV 24/7, it’s game over for everyone: Avast, AVG, Norton, Mcafee etc.
Our techs use Gmer too...

Beats me. I had not heard of the program until your message. However, a quick google indicates it's free and well received.
Wouldn't stand up to Zero's NSA. But maybe if you followed it with one of those utilities to wipe unused disk blocks, it would be a significant speed bump.

I have 2 computers. The first is for gaming and a few apps the second is for the rest. PC one has windows xp and PC two has SUSE 10. I caught a virus with avg on the xp and was angry I saw it and avg didn’t. The only thing I could find that recognized the infection in the free category was the MS site. That was my last shot believe me. Well guess what, it worked great and I have no problems at all. To be fair I’ve had it for about a month. As for the virus it came in a pdf from a Korean motherboard manufacturer’s website. I highly recommend updating Adobe Acrobat to the newest version. As long as I’m at it pc 3 has win2k. I keep it because I like it.
LMAO I was just thinking about trying the live disc. Is that wrong? I remember when they said that about Mandrake in ~ 98. My friend Chris used to say I should feal dirty for using Mandrake. He’s a Caldera and SUSE freak.

You probably have , hundreds of times , and didn't know it ... in most MS OS's defrag is by default a scheduled event weekly/monthly etc. , with a large disk cache you might not notice the latency and seek delays for small files but you will definately notice performance delays if you don't defrag for 9 years as you declared you have.

On a more practical note, many opensource projects are already packaged as binary executables, with installers, for unix platforms, Mac OS and Windows.
The GIMP is a fantastic program as a replacement for Photoshop, Open Solaris is a top-notch OS as a replacement for Linux, and OpenOffice (also from Sun) is a great replacement for MS Office.
Used it for years. It's bloatware. Horrible, horrible, horrible. PerfectDisk also sucks.
