These job sites aren’t set up to take anything but Word. Open Office .txt files put in extraneous characters. They may have got the .doc right, but .txt is a simpler format, should have no bugs, and “they’ve” got bugs. Ultimately, it’s the Microsoft monopoly, on PC’s I haven’t found anything that works well other than Word. I’m sure they are set up to work well with whatever is common on the Mac for word processing.

This isn’t the first time a MS demo included a Mac. Probably he knew about it, and wanted to implant a meme. ;’)

Saw the 27” yesterday. Whoa. If my debts get paid down enough, I may just spring for the quad version of that, and screw everything else. :’)

Interesting claim.

Microsoft with its proprietary operating system has a monopoly, because Steve Ballmer himself has called Linux’ and Apple’s market share a “rounding error”.

You’re spending a lot of time telling me what I said, and getting it all wrong.

BS, Discostu. I understand completely. You are still asserting that Apple has no competition against all facts and evidence. Just because YOU want that to be true does not make it true. If what you claim is the case, why does MS run ads knocking Apple notebook prices in its "Laptop Hunter" ad series. Why are all the Windows fans complaining about Apple's prices and saying they'd buy a Mac if the prices were lower?

I never said each OS was a market unto itself.

Your comment about only if Psystar becomes less of a joke would Apple have any competition in its market certainly implies it since the OS is only thing that differentiates Psystar and Apple from all the rest of the players in the market.

Dell might wish Windows did better on high end machines, but MS doesn't care, a Windows license is a Windows license if the computer cost $400 or $2000.
:') The reason it will be a problem is, none of the domestic manufacturers will be able to maintain and domestic production -- on the off chance that any of them do now. I think pretty much all of Apple's production is in China (or elsewhere in the Far East), but they've managed to maintain high quality (not always easy with the corner-cutting Chinese profiteers, they build perfect samples, but start shaving when they go into production) and obviously have improved margins even while increasing sales and dropping prices.

One of Jobs' first acts when he returned in triumph from his exile was to withdraw the licenses to manufacture Mac clones (basically, the PM 7200 motherboard, had to be built by and purchased from Apple, included in a variety of offerings by much smaller companies) because it wasn't growing overall OS penetration, merely cutting into Apple's higher-end CPU sales (because the licensees were juicing up their boxes).

The key move by Jobs was the transition to Intel. The focus on specific lines (rather than a delirious riot of parallel development of models that characterized the non-Jobs era) did what it did, the rebirth of the Mac as art (original iMac, the Cube, the shower-massage iMac, the current families) did what it did, abandonment of the classic OS for OS X did what it did, but the Intel transition was the culmination -- until Jobs' next move, whatever it turns out to be -- of Apple's current ascendancy.

Y’know, in defense of NBC, maybe they couldn’t get 7 to run on anything they had around *except* for a Mac. ;’)

name 3 companies that sell Macs for less than Apple? If you don’t have at least 3 companies trying to under cut your prices then you don’t have any competition on price, which frees you up to have a much higher per sale profit margin. THAT is what I said. That is what you’re avoiding dealing with by lying about what I said. Don’t lie about what I said.

The personal computer industry has been international in its manufacturing pretty much since day one. Prices won’t change that, and it isn’t a problem.

You outline one of the big reasons I don’t buy Macs. I don’t want a computer that’s “art”, for one thing most attempts to make computers “art” come out ugly (all the iMacs are hideous), and even if they don’t come out ugly I don’t want to pay extra for the box which is just going to wind up by my feet under the desk anyway.

Hideous? Hardly. As I thought most people know, most Macs sold aren’t under desks, they are on the desk, because they’re either iMacs or notebooks; the Mac Pro is a separate CPU box connected to separate monitors etc like any other pc.

Yes HIDEOUS. The first iMac looked like a 1950s TV, the second iMac looked like a desk lamp with a thyroid condition, finally with the G5 iMac they got almost normal except that 6 inch space of blank white below the monitor for the logo. 100% UGLY computers. And yes I know iMacs aren’t for under the desk, I also know the “pretty” computer thing doesn’t belong exclusively to iMac, you mentioned the Cube (portable trash compactor). but don’t worry ugly computers are by know means the exclusive territory of Apple, Alienware blows chunks too.

Bring back the beige bland box, if you want art on your computer DISPLAY it on your monitor.

Your remarks are just more of the same — piling abuse on Apple products for no rational reason whatsoever.

It’s not abuse, it’s a simple statement, I think iMacs are ugly. YOU mentioned their “art” then thus opening the door to the subjective world of art criticism. In my subjective view them’s some ugly computers, it’s kind of like when you’re friend gets an ugly girlfriend though, you ain’t sleepin’ with her so it’s not really your problem. I ain’t buying ANYBODY’S ugly computers (including Alienware or the other companies that have followed down the primrose path), so it’s not really my problem.

You posted an opinion, which apparently is meaningless as well! You speak highly of your own thoughts, but in reality they are those of a child, throwing a tantrum...

Grow up and start your own software company. Then come back and tell us how great you are. Microsoft sucks...

I’m not throwing any tantrum. And I work in the software industry, and the product I work on has about 70% of its market share and is used by about 480 of the Fortune 500 companies. I’ve got a pretty good idea how to get good stuff to market.

The products I work on work, full time, without viruses, or bots infecting it's usage. I don't have to worry about spybots, nor do I worry about losing time with a blue screen. The only reason MS has come this far is from their origianl government contracts, FRiend. They certainly don't have the best products. That's why so many people are switching.

All you have done on this thread is spread malicious and incorrect data in an attempt to denigrate one of the most profitable computer companies anywhere on earth. You came to this thread with that intent, and have not departed just like so many other Mac threads you visit.

So, you work at GameStop, huh?
