A picture of a hunting wolf has won the prestigious Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 award.
Jose Luis Rodriguez captured the imaginations of the judges with a picture that he had planned for years, and even sketched out on a piece of paper.
"I wanted to capture a photo in which you would see a wolf in an act of hunting - or predation - but without blood," he told BBC News. "I didn't want a cruel image."
With a great deal of patience and careful observation of the wolves' movements, he succeeded in taking the award-winning photograph.
Mr Rodriguez used a custom-built infrared trap to snap the wolf as it leapt into the air.
I hate to admit I know who that is. It shows my age. I used to listen to Wolfman Jack many moons ago.
Wolves are magnificent creatures - awesome pictures on this thread - thank you!
But the woodsman got the wolf in the end.
That’s what I was thinking - we had horses who weren’t as good.
I raise sheep. And I’m damned tired of the anti-property rights, pro-wolf lobby cooing on FR.

Maybe you should go back to photographing puppies and kittens.
I don't think he's ignoring it. I think he simply wanted his picture to capture "during" the chase. The blood ... the "after" ... the stereotypical image ... that's been done often enough.
I’m telling Daffy on you.......
I have got a lovely black lab also....its slightly raining out tonight. She refused to go out if its possible her feet might get wet.....weird lab. Got her into my daughters pond up to her knees then she put on the brakes...I give up on her getting wet in any way, shape or form...
So. California in the '60s. Quite a time to be growing up ! What a blast.

They are a beautiful animal if you don’t have livestock...the only thing we ever had to shoot was a dog trying to get into the pasture when I had the farm, but I live in Michigan...lower penisular has coyote, but no wolf...wouldn’t want to meet one at night on the way to the barn without a gun...but I had to carry one at night during kidding season, we would sometimes get a small pack of dogs. A hand gun comes in handy in close quarters..
Those are some awesome pictures.....# 20 reminds me of a red siberian husky I use to have, he had amber eyes....beautiful but almost untrainable for suburban living..
LOL now that one is funny.....thanks

How very PC of him.
You don’t often see pictures of the Reds...that looks just like my Chichow....thanks
