A picture of a hunting wolf has won the prestigious Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 award.
Jose Luis Rodriguez captured the imaginations of the judges with a picture that he had planned for years, and even sketched out on a piece of paper.
"I wanted to capture a photo in which you would see a wolf in an act of hunting - or predation - but without blood," he told BBC News. "I didn't want a cruel image."
With a great deal of patience and careful observation of the wolves' movements, he succeeded in taking the award-winning photograph.
Mr Rodriguez used a custom-built infrared trap to snap the wolf as it leapt into the air.

OMG Pepper loves to be rubbed down with a towel when she gets wet, is the problem ours or theirs...LOL I have tried the leash thingy. We live in a rural area and she will walk on the asphalt drive, but still has to be dragged onto the grass...I go to bed late so dragging her onto the grass a 2 in the morning is getting to be a pain...been doing it for years, good luck with your lab. Hope it works for you..
Winter isn't too bad as she does-not mind snow...will come in with it all over her...(we live in Michigan) sometimes we get a foot of snow overnight. This dog doesn't know snow is wet, just rain....

Funny! Are our two dogs related? I remember when we got Sophie from the breeder on the other side of Mineral Point WI (we're from WI) and her then owner came down with her on the leash. She had snow all over her snout and he said "Sophie and her snow, she loves snow".

Pepper came from a lab rescue when a pup...She has a bump on her head that is not standard. (we call her knot head sometimes). I don’t know the breeder but there could be a genetic connection back someplace... Our labs are certainly not normal labs...:O)

Hi Joe posted that picture in response to one of my replies...I had a pure bred red husky, looked just like that...they have broad shoulders and deep muscled chests for pulling..they taper in the back a little, most of the muscles are all front ward....

Balto was the lead dog of the final sled team that raced through hurricane-force winds and minus-50-degree temperatures to bring serum to the diphtheria stricken town of Nome, Alaska, in 1925.

"Da Wolfman !!! So. California in the '60s. Quite a time to be growing up ! What a blast."I never lived in Southern California but since the transmitter he broadcast over was in Mexico they could really crank the power up. Wolfman could be heard in alot of places. He was on the cutting edge of radio. No one like him since.

"I raise sheep. And Im damned tired of the anti-property rights, pro-wolf lobby cooing on FR." I think there are some who watced too many Disney movies. The way we deal with coyotes up here is a predator call and a well placed shot with a 22-250.
