I've had two "missed abortions" (no symptoms whatsoever, heartbeat at first few ultrasounds, then nothing at next appt.). That phrase was EXTREMELY offensive to me as well.

My first doctor was NOT sympathetic and when they saw that my first BABY had died, asked me, "What do you want to do with the products of conception?" Very matter of factly, no sympathy, emotion, NOTHING.

I was like, "Wha..??" (In shock, basically)

"You know, the leftovers from the pregnancy. We can do a D&C and remove them, or you can wait and see if you pass them naturally. Most women don't want the reminder though and choose the procedure."

Needless to say, I was finished with that doctor!

The hospital asked about a D&C. I didn't know what it meant so I asked. OUCH it hurt just finding out what it meant. No thank you!

My wife knew and had said "only if I have too" before I asked what it was.
