Actually, you might want to remind YOURSELF that this began with your posting an article about Paterno in which the author couldn't resist a few small digs at Bear Bryant. I take nothing away from Paterno but since you brought it up, here are some facts that indicate longevity does not necessarily equal superiority:
Paterno: .750 winning percentage. Bryant: .800 winning percentage (.780 at Alabama). Paterno: 5 losing seasons. Bryant: 1 losing season (his first at Texas A&M). Paterno: 2 National Championships. Bryant: 6 National Championships. Paterno: 3 Conference Titles. Bryant: 13 Conference Titles with 25 straight winning seasons at Alabama.
I guess that even back then all those polls were just wrong ...
Wow, the article suggested while Joepa was goody two shoes, the Bear lived hard.......oooooh, how awful, awful. Just horrible, inconceivable, and dastardly yellow journalism to mention such prurient details.......*gasp*....he smoked Chesterfields, drank bourbon, and griped about the new rules at the end. Oh noes, oh noes......
Sometimes I wonder if it's possible to enjoy life at a continuous altitude of 10' above sea level, surrounded by skeery bluehaired drivers headed to their bingo games and early bird specials.
And to be so thin skinned as well..........
Tsk, tsk.
11-2; 5-2 Stats to remember.........
