I asked if he could drive it home to my house and I would bring him back. He said fine. I signed papers and he said after 6pm(about 40 more minutes from the time we were finished) he and his wife would bring it by my place and drop it off and I would not need to bring him back. Sounded great. I waited and waited. Never arrived. He called and said the headlights didn't work and would fix them tomorrow and then drop it off(they worked fine when I was there). What could I do?? So, I agreed. He assured me he'd take care of it and didn't want to give me the car with lights broken. After our call, I decided to google his name. Freakin great! He and his wife are under investigation for child porn, drugs and everything else. All over the freakin news sites here locally! He's called the scum of the earth!! Now I am wondering just whether I will even get the car,, I realized I left without a bill of sale because he said he would put all of that into the car when he brought it to the house. But,, for all I know everything he said could be true,, but for all I know he is switching the tires that were on the car(they were brand new!), will take my money and be done and what do I have??? He's got the paper work. There were several other people in his place of business that witnessed what was going on,,??? Any advice for a morn. I cannot believe I did this!!! This guy was such a good talker. I have been looking at cars for over 2 weeks ( Look, I know the price range is crap,, we are talking an around the town car and one for my 16 year old to learn on!) What can I do legally if this guy switches tires, or takes my cash and I never get the car. He could say he doesn't even know me!! What in the world have I done?? !! (Sorry, I am in the emotion of it all and it makes me mad!!)

Go to the dealership and pick up the car....do not cancel the check until after you’re abosulutely sure he will not hand the car over.

You may have to threaten to call the cops while you are at his office. Any problems, call them and file a report.....don’t hesitate....

For a Theft by Taking charge his attorney would advise him to give you a $1500 car...it ain’t worth the rap or the attorney time...

Show up early and with friends. Either get your car or your money.

If you go back over and he’s tried to switch things off on you, demand that he makes it right or give you your money back. If he does not give it to you, call 911 and tell them you need assistance. When they get there have them fill out a report. Tell him you are calling the consumer protection agency with the attorney general of your state. IF you leave without getting what you paid for call the attorney generals office.

Sounds like you went to Obama's Used Cars.

Clinton's lot was a bit more honest. He wore plaid jackets, polyester bellbottoms, sucked unlit cigars, and talked up Ford Falcons as quarter-mile terrors.

Actually, rethinking my previous post.
You were foolish to go get the car by yourself, I mean really who drives it back.
You were foolish to not take the bill of sale with you.
You were foolish to fall for their “scam”.
And lastly, I doubt your story.

Just for anyone watching. My dad was a car dealer and his dad was a car dealer.

1. Never leave the lot without the car. They don’t need to do anything with that car. You buy it, you drive it. Leaving the car “until the next morning” is a way to get more money out of you. They have the car, they have your money. You have no bargaining chip. They’ll find a reason to get more money from you.
2. Never pay cash for a car. If they insist, you go to the bank with the title and the car and get it done. You’d be surprised how many people try to sell cars when the bank holds the title.
3. If you are not ready to walk on a deal, don’t do it.

Before buying a car, this is a good book to read. It explains why car dealers have free hot dogs and balloons and want you to bring your kids with you. parsy, who has been there

Have every large male friend you have meet you down at the dealership in the morning. Don’t leave without the car or your money.

Scumbag bullies like this assume you’re going to back down, he’ll cave like Madeline Albright before Kim Jong-Il if you make it plain he’ll feel pain for screwing you.

You do not own the car unless you drive it off the lot. If you take delivery at home, you have 3 days to recind the agreement. In the car business we call it “taillights over the curb”

there is a chance that car might have some of his child porn and drugs stashed in it somewhere. guess who might be in a world of hurt if pulled over for say a minor traffic infraction and some eagle eye cop spies some of that jerk’s child porn and or drugs he left behind and that might have popped out of between seats or some such other scenario. just sayin’, be damn careful....

First of all Mike, none of this potential for a problem has happened yet.

He may show up tomorrow morning with everything that is due you in your car with the bill of sale and the electrical problem in the head lights fixed. Just because he and his wife are under investigation for Child porn (if so, why hasn’t Child Protective Services removed the 9month old little girl from the household?) or drugs does not mean that he is a swindler in the sales of cars from his or his employer’s car lot. You may be working yourself into a worry totally unjustifiably. Should you have left without the car or a bill-of-sale? Nope. But don’t assume the worst.

Tomorrow morning, if he does not show up, first call the car lot and ask where your car is and when you can expect delivery, or would it be better if you came there to get it. If they give you the run around, go to the dealership and demand either your car or your money. If you don’t get a satisfactory response, THEN call the cops.
