Well, depends on what you want. A field bred retriever can be an awful handful, I have one that's a half and halfer and one that's almost 100% field bred. When the half field girl was a pup she was a handful, but she settled down around 2 1/2. The field girl is 3 plus and is still a complete loon.
She does love to retrieve, though.

Did you know that the original poodles were hunting dogs? They have webbed feet like water retrievers. Those pom-poms were to protect their joints while in the water. They also were multi-colored like my present poodle. I’m not computer literate enough to post a picture.

Retrievers are just the best dogs.... Are not! German Shepherds are much better than all the other dogs in the whole world...combined. Just ask mine! :)
