That second one is especially beautiful.
Wow! Don't think I've ever seen that one before. I agree, it's one of his bests. I'll add it and the others to my collection. Thanks!
Lots of slate there
Great art.... Much better than what passes for art today which reflects the neurotic urban mind

Actually, there's no slate at all there. It's shale, sandstone and conglomerates in alternating sequences (due to coast line advances and retreats). Slate is a metamorphosed shale. Being far from the ancient tectonic collision zones, the rocks in the Catskills are almost entirely sedimentary. Metamorphism occurred further east in New England, also New York City. The sedimentary beds of the Catskills are the erosional remnants of mountains that were raised in the collisions (~400-350 million years ago).
Yes, very nice. I love the Hudson River School and its influence on our Western painters. The landscapes are magnificent!
Makes me recall Taughannock Falls and Buttermilk Falls in Ithaca.
What about Watkins Glen and Letchworth State Parks, in or near the Finger Lakes region of New York? If I had the time I’ll find some pics and post. In the meantime...

And Lucifer Falls in nearby Robert H. Treman State Park.

You are an artist and geologist. I defer to you (no sarcasm) The good landscape artists had to be observers and students of the natural world that God created
Our modern abstract artists and just plain modern artists are observers and students of what man creates. Cityscapes fascinate them and its more freaky denizens are often their subject matter. Being edgy and all that stuff
I remember Treman State Park well. My dad’s company used to hold company picnics there. Beautiful spot!

Note: the pics don’t really do them justice, because they are so long and tall they can’t fit into a single photo. It’s one of those things you have to see to appreciate.
Re: they are so long and tall they can’t fit into a single photo.
The pics show either the lower portions or upper portions in isolation.
