Loved it. Thanks!
Thank you. That is excellent.
Thanks so much for this trip down memory lane.
‘Listened to The Association’s “Never My Love” on the plane all the way to Vietnam, and Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” all the way back.
God, what emotions....
Thanks again.
You’re welcome.
That’s a nice version of the song. I always liked Glen Campbell. When he was at the height of his popularity, he gave a concert at the Univ. of Southern Mississippi, and my Mama and Daddy, who were also fans of his, took my younger sisters and me to see him. He was terrific, but was almost upstaged by his opening act, Bobbie Gentry, whose song, “Ode to Billy Joe” had just hit the airwaves.
Look for the cuts from the PBS Sioux Falls concert - while some songs are corny, on others he really wails on the guitar.
Also his latest CD (released last August) is all over youtube and it is great. He didn't get the Grammy love that Johnny Cash got, but it is much better than Johnny's crossover.
Funny, Glen used to have Johnny on HIS show, not vice versa. Glen just got pigeon-holed into being "uncool" somewhere along the way and its too bad because he's one of the greatest singers and guitarists we'll ever see.
I knew a guy who used to do sessions with him back with the "Wrecking Crew" and he said that he would "double dip" by singing and playing on the same track - most often in one or two takes. He also said he had incredible vocal range (and still does).
He's one of those guys who unfortunately won't be fully appreciated until he's gone.
Well I suppose so but it's not better by a mile.
For me it's just good to see Glen Campbell singing again. I hope he has come to terms with the booze and the drugs. When Glen Campbell was young and sober you could almost, but not quite, put him up with Roy Orbison. He was no Roy Orbison but he was as close as anyone else. Great singer. Great songs.
reminds me of riding with my dad in his Jeep J10 as he plowed snow for extra money back in the 70’s in Wisconsin — we’d listen to AM radio in his Jeep J10 and sometimes we’d hear it. that version with STP was sublime. thank you for sharing.
Thanks for posting! One of the reasons I’m always on this site is because no matter how bleak the news is, you get gems like this to break things up. Glen still sounds great!
Great clip!
I loved the others on this thread...but this is pretty recent.
Thanks for sharing.
That was great! Love that song.
