"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Yep, for the music that before television, you wouldn’t get recorded if you weren’t really good, my favorite era, 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, had it on Directv channel 801 this afternoon

801 is always on the 1940s. It’s one of my favorites. The music is happy, upbeat. You can’t tell me people are happier today than then.(removing the huge increase in the standard of living.)

Is anyone else having Internet issues today? My download speeds are the slowest I've ever seen. Even having a little trouble with this feed.

In Southern Minnesota here, public radio sometimes does some short talk radio skits in the morning too, though I am usually listening to that station for big band music. It’s a wonder someone don’t pick up on how good that early stuff is, I’d think you could corner the market

Thanks for the tip. Been listening to such programs for 50 years. Tapes, cds, and now the net. Used to collect old radios and swl, ham etc once upon a time. Cheers.

My first decent SW receiver was an S-76. Very similar to the SX-42 pictured, but a little older model, general coverage with bandspread for the ham bands, all in black, and with a very large S-meter.

One of my greatest joys of the internet is listening to the “Old Time Radio Shows” on various websites.

Duffys Tavern and the stars they hosted is an excellent example. But its just one of many I like.
