I don't know how many of you are familiar with the show "Supernatural." It airs on the CW and is in its fifth season. The premise was simple when it started out: two brothers, raised from birth to be "monster" hunters, travel the country battling creatures ripped from urban legend: the hook man, shapeshifters, werewolves. Basically, a hipper, younger X-Files with a lot of rock music and gunplay.

Then, it changed. It became focused on their efforts to stop demons from flooding out of hell and into earth. They failed, angels became involved, and it is now pre-Armageddon. Lucifer is out of hell--along with the Four Horsemen--and the angels are trying to defeat him once and for all--preferrably before he takes a human host and reaches his full power. Oh, and the angels believe God is either dead or has abandoned them and humanity. Also, their capacity for cruelty and pettiness is almost indistinguishable from the demons.

So, we're up to this week's episode, where Dean--one of the main characters--is taken by an angel from 2009 to 2014. As the angel recounts all of the bad things that have transpired in the missing five years, he reads the headline, "President Palin Defends Bombing Houston." It seems that the demons unleashed a worldwide virus that is pretty much like the rage virus from 28 Days Later, and cities across the globe have been locked down to keep the infected from escaping. Not much more information is given, but it seems Houston got out of control and Sarah took 'em out. Sounds like even in fantasy, she is capable of making the hard decisions.

Now, this was a bad future that the angel was hoping Dean would be able to prevent. I'm sure to the writers, one of the most important things to prevent was Palin ascending to the Presidency. They made a point later on to say, "Everything went crazy two years ago." A-ha! The election year!

No real evidence in the episode that it was a Palin bash, but the show does have a history. Back in season three, Dean was told by a demon that other demons walk among us, taking positions of power. He asks, "Cheney?" She says, "Let's just say he's got a parking spot reserved in hell." I thought that was a pretty low blow. If I was writing a television show, I wouldn't have enough disrespect for the office or for half of my audience to say, "Yeah, Biden's a hellbound demon!" The next season, Dean called "Joe the Plumber" a "douche." Yeah, that word is bandied around a *lot* on Supernatural, along with dick. I'm glad those are on the acceptable list now.

So, did anyone see the President Palin episode, and what did you think if you did? For me, it was music to my ears to hear the phrase "President Palin." I could get used to it. Perhaps not the reaction they were looking for. :)

This is too rich. Of course 0 would first take a vacation, then go golfing, and finally try to avoid making any decisions.

I tried to watch that show, but when that demon was disguised as a Catholic priest, and he took out a church full of nuns, I knew we had a catholic bashing, God bashing, filth fest on our hands. Sorry to see I have not been disappointed.........

Sounds like an interesting enough program, but in an alternate universe of course.

Joe Biden, not to disrespect his office, but he's had unsuccessful brain surgery THREE TIMES!

You tell me that show is really all that different from our frame of reference, particularly when you realized a certifiably and violently insane individual lies third in the chain of succession to the Presidency.

I think we must figure out how to CHANGE THE CHANNEL before these pukes kill us all.

It’s a “lesser” network. You’ve got NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox, and then you have the CW. It’s basically what the Fox network was back in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Smaller audience, smaller ratings.

The President part sounds good to me. That’d mean zero lost the ‘12 election.

Houston we got a problem.

Headline?

"Acknowledge our Muslim heritage, the way to true peace."
President Obama Surrenders Cities To Islamists
U.S. cities evacuated. Radical Muslims occupy cities, threaten others.

I remember the “Seaquest DSV” TV show (1993-96) with Roy Scheider which was a modest attempt to do Star Trek in the sea. I recall multiple disparaging mentions of Reagan battlestars and the like. So this is typical Hollywood “lets make Republicans the default background villains”. The default evil guy is, of course, a white country club male and he obviously vote GOP - right?
