True story.
When I was a kid, my Dad had an old 3/4 ton army truck (1945 Dodge) as a beach buggy. One night we were leaving the beach, driving through the dunes. I never did learn why, but everytime we went uphill the headlights would go out. When we would level off or go downhill they came back on. My Dad’s friend sat up on the front fender with a 6 volt flashlight (lantern) so my Dad could see.
When I was travelling the country as a musician, we had the alternator die on the way home in the middle of the night. In nearly the middle of nowhere. We had a couple of flashlights pointed at the white lines on the side of the road.
We came to a very small town, and found a car with the keys in the ignition. We started someones car in the middle of the night to charge our battery. A drunk guy caught us. I talked him into driving in front of us for 30 miles to get us nearly home. He turned around when we saw the police road block. We got pulled over for driving without the headlights.
Fun times.
