To me instant coffee has a distinct and awful taste and noticeable after taste.
The Starbucks version is not coffee that has been brewed and then freeze-dried or otherwise dried out. It consists of roasted coffee beans that have been ground so fine that they make instant coffee when mixed with very hot water.
