ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)The Angels soaked the jersey in beer, champagne and tears, holding Nick Adenharts(notes) No. 34 high in the middle of the celebration he missed.
Los Angeles is headed back to the playoffs for the sixth time in eight years, and the Angels intend to go with the memory of their late teammate alongside them. The 22-year-old pitchers death in an April car accident roiled their season early on, but it couldnt sink this resilient team.
Kendry Morales(notes) homered and drove in three runs, and the Angels wasted no time clinching their third straight AL West title with an 11-0 victory over the second-place Texas Rangers on Monday night.
(snip)
About 10 minutes into their clubhouse celebration, the players grabbed Adenharts jersey and gave it a dousing. The Angels have taken Adenharts jersey on every road trip and kept his locker intact in memory, and reliever Kevin Jepsen(notes) brought the shirt back to the clubhouse from the dugout for the celebration.

I remember the stadium being built.....
I recall Willie Mays hitting the first home run in the stadium.
I hated the name "California Angels"...even as a young kid.
I lived and died with the Angels....
Rejoiced when they changed their name to Anaheim Angels....That's where they are...that's what they should be called. Period.
Totally disgusted when Disney bought the Angels....
Rejoiced when they won the series...!!
Distressed when they changed their name again.....to L.A. Angels of Anaheim. What's that all about!!??
Still am a fan....but ticked off I couldn't watch last night.
They have a very good team.....we shall see what happens.
There's such leftist ownership in baseball going on these days that the Giants actually played a home game against the Dodgers wearing uniforms with "Gigantes" rather than "Giants". Wonder what that was all about. Something tells me that old man Stoneham must be spinning in his grave.
As to Willie Mays hitting a HR in Anaheim, must have been an exhibition game because Mays never played in the American League.
I hoping for a RED OCTOBER !!
Do not doubt me!
LOL!!
Used to have a couple Willie Mays baseball cards...and dear old mom threw them all away. A couple hundred cards....Warren Spahn, Gil Hodges, The Mick...etc...etc..
Personally I could careless that the Angels wore red....Now the Giants thing is totally different.
Heck you will pass out when/if you hear the Dodgers announced as the "The Angels Dodgers"....lol!!
It looks like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be playing the Boston Red Sox of Massachusetts in the first round of the playoffs. If the Angels can get by them, they'll probably have to face the New York Yankees of New York in the AL championship series.
The Angels match up well with both teams...IMO.
The Angels and the Yanks are batting .285 as a team....Boston is near .270
And, the Angels basically split all their games with both the Yankees and Boston.
So...I figure we will have some good games..!!
See ya!!
