Windows works for me. But I'd never recommend it to anybody else, ever.
I admit it: I'm a bigot. A hopeless bigot at that: I know my particular prejudice is absurd, but I just can't control it. It's Apple. I don't like Apple products. And the better-designed and more ubiquitous they become, the more I dislike them. I blame the customers. Awful people. Awful. Stop showing me your iPhone. Stop stroking your Macbook. Stop telling me to get one.
Seriously, stop it. I don't care if Mac stuff is better. I don't care if Mac stuff is cool. I don't care if every Mac product comes equipped a magic button on the side that causes it to piddle gold coins and resurrect the dead and make holographic unicorns dance inside your head. I'm not buying one, so shut up and go home. Go back to your house. I know, you've got an iHouse. The walls are brushed aluminum. There's a glowing Apple logo on the roof. And you love it there. You absolute MONSTER.

I bet you also built your own computer which runs everything at lightspeed and you made it out of a lettuce leaf and a book of matches purchased from New Egg for forty two cents.
39 cents, New Egg beat TigerDirect’s price by 3 cents.
I think this quote best describes Windows marketing:
“If Microsoft had been put in charge of marketing sex, the human race would have ended long ago, because no one would be caught dead doing something that uncool.”
How long do you generally keep your Macs before you upgrade to a newer version?
Thanks.
n/a. I run misc adobe stuff as my most compute-intensive software running in parallels (before snow leopard).

I am relatively new in the mac world. My oldest mac mini is only about 4 years old right now. I got it to replace a dell box that my daughter used for about 2 years before it quit on me. Cost wise, the mac is a bit better right now. The dell cost $300, the mini was less than twice that, but has lasted twice as long. And still going.
I am looking into virtual boxes going forward - set up a mac with plenty of ram, and allow wife/kids to 'remote' to them and use older hardware. Just learning/trying this out now, will have to try it for a while before I decide if I can continue to use older computers (maybe even cheap laptops) to remotely access a newer mac/win/linux 'box'.
I do have 1 dell box that is still going relatively strong after 5 years. Lasted longer than any pc I have had before.
Come on, we're not all maniacal fanatics pushing a demented religion. I've neve personally beheaded any Windows users, though at times I've felt like it.
But actually, I will honor and respect the existence of Windows as long as I run my personal IT business. If everybody used Macs, I would be out of work.
