No doubt UFOs are real -— and they are really “unidentified”. So far no one has any reliable evidence what they are.

"What do you think?"

Since you asked: I think hocus-pocus Earthlings hinder the advance of mankind.

(Please note that I did not ask what you think.)

In 1966 I tossed a garbage can lid into the air and snapped some photos of it. To date those are still the best “UFO” images I’ve yet seen.

Cool. Any other stuff you can lay on us old, lamented X-philes?

I tend to not believe Dr. Mitchell because, like other far-fetched claims, it would take a large number of people to keep this secret

I always find it amusing when this argument is used since its not really a secret .. the "large" number of people either didn't try to keep it secret or didn't succeed.

I am a space brat... I grew up right next door to JSC-NASA... a few hundred feet in fact. My neighbors were astronauts. My father just retired from Mission Control as the longest serving member at Nasa.

I myself work at JSC for a few years out of college.

Most in the community know that we have some kind of visitors. The information is widespread. Its not a secret.

Its just that no one believes anyone (who isn't part of the community that is) because the "physical proof" is handled well... and that doesn't take a "large number of people" to control.

I can tell you all sorts of stories and info, but why bother. I'd just get insulted or attacked by skeptics. So... that's a control mechanism as well.

And I, nor my father (as far as he's told me) have ever been told to keep this stuff secret. There's no point... as long as the physical evidence is secured... people will believe what they want.

Again, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

"However, I tend to agree with Carl Sagan when he stated that “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof”."

Did the Great Oracle state this when he was trying to prohibit the publication of Immanuel Velikovsky's books?

Just looked up ol’ Velikovsky in Wikipedia. Man, I gotta apologize for saying Dr. Mitchell is ‘way out there’. Please don’t tell me people actually believe that stuff.

I tend to discount most UFO sightings and would say no there are no visitors except for one piece of "extraorinary" evidence that people always claim is lacking. The foo fighters of WWII, seen and described by pilots on both sides of the war, they were very small, about 2ft or so in diameter and very fast, flying without any visible means of propulsion.

No one has ever explained those, they were not German super weapons, or allied either. No one ever took a picture of them because the cameras on fighters were gun cameras and no one could get behind one long enough to shoot at them.

Germans thought they were American made, Americans thought they were German made. Turns out they weren't made by either side.

This info is out there but has never been widely discussed or delved into and this is what makes me think, as Mulder would say, "The truth is out there". Seriously, they do keep me wondering.

And I've seen it. But you likely won't.

Hopefully, some administration will stop treating the people of the this country like babies and let them see it as well.

Then we can learn from them, adopt their stances on abortion and illegal immigration... then cook ‘em up and eat ‘em.

Pig-based alien meat is supposed to be very tasty.

"Please don’t tell me people actually believe that stuff."

I DO believe that the temperature of Venus is as predicted by Velikovsky, and I think the van Allen belts (not positive about that), but he got way more wrong than right. He raised a lot of questions about the frozen mammoths with daisys in their stomachs, way back before cable TV, and had a lot of interesting things to say, about worldwide religious accounts of the flood, for his time.

But you didn't answer the question- did the Great Oracle Sagan come up with that statement when he was trying to prohibit Velikovsky's book(s) from being published?

Oh, please.

I grew up in Nassau Bay, TX from 1964 to 1972. My old man flew Gemini XI with Pete Conrad and Apollo XII with Pete Conrad and Al Bean. He was also backup CMP for Apollo IX and backup Commander for Apollo XV and would have been Commander of Apollo XVIII had they not cut the program short.

He says Edgar Mitchell is flucking nuts and just wants attention.

FYI, my point was not to influence ones belief or not. It was simply to make the point that its easy to keep a secret. Secure the physical evidence... that's it.

Skeptics will assume that all photos or video recordings are fake and that all verbal or written accounts are made up. And who cares about believers who believe it all without evidence. Those folks actually help to keep the secret... boundless incorrect information muddles everything.

Control the physical evidence, that's all you have to do. Easy as pie. Those not in the loop will never know one way or the other for sure, and those in the loop don't care all that much if others know.

Mitchell only spoke about it because he knew it would make no difference one way or the other. Believers already believe without proof. Skeptics won't believe unless they are in the loop and if they ever did get in the loop, they become the Mitchells that no one believes.

I'm sure that's possible. And as such, he may just not care what other's think about him. Therefor he has no reservations about talking about this stuff.

The perfectly sane, don't relish the snide comments (such as yours), and all the mess that comes from discussing such issues. Just isn't worth it. If your dad was still part of the program, I'd have him look up a shuttle downlink tape from 1996.

Snide comments? Don't get me started.

Until you realize that Einstein showed (with math even) that one cannot go faster than the speed of light, then there is no point in talking to you.

Like the man said, “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs.”

Oh yeah, and all of the UFO nuts use Apollo XII as proof that there are UFOs, simply because they saw something following the Command Module after their hookup with the LEM. Turns out that it was one of the fairings that covered the LEM. It was racing along at roughly the same speed, and the sunlight hit it just so, so that it could be seen by the crew. But still, the UFO guys always say to this day that the crew videotaped a UFO following the crew.

Do you believe?

What a wearisome bunch of clap trap . . .

Sounds like you think that 100% of what's in all the physics books is 100% accurate.

I'm sure the scientists before Gallelio sp? felt that way, too.

It's suchhhhhhhhhhhhh an IMPRESSIVE perspective.
