A Minneapolis woman is still trying to come to grips with what happened to her guide dog Thursday night at the downtown Target store.
Lolly Lijewski and her dog Brook had just gone into the store when a woman kicked the working dog. A stranger passing by stepped in to help.
"As I was coming into the foyer of the store, my dog's feet seemed to go out from under her," said Lijewski.
Lijewski didn't know what happened to her service dog.
"Then there was a young girl to our left who said, 'Someone just kicked your dog,'" said Lijewski.
The woman then helped her track down a Target manager who scanned surveillance tape for the incident. It shows a woman swinging her leg toward the dog.
"If someone injures my dog they injure me. Our dogs keep us safe out in the world. They're trusting, they're sweet," said Lijewsjki.
Store security called police immediately.
"They went back and looked on the video and saw who this person was. Obviously she's somewhat familiar to some of the people down there. We were able to catch her outside and issue a misdemeanor citation for cruelty to animals," said Minneapolis Police Sergeant Jesse Garcia.
"It was stunning that someone would take such action and with clear malice," said Lijewski.
As disturbing as the situation was, Lijewski has high praise for the Target staff.
"This Target staff acted immediately, swiftly and they definitely took it seriously," she said.
And the good samaritan who came to her aid.
"I wouldn't have known if this girl hadn't come forward. I'm so grateful to her for coming forward and telling me what she saw," said Lijewski.
Lijewski never knew who the young woman was who helped her and she wants so much to find her and thank her again.
As for her dog, she's taking her to the vet next week but it appears she's fine.
Ping....
Great story. Hope they fry the kicker.
So did the dog hit the target?
Amish acting out again?
what kind of piece of crap would kick a guide dog? geez...
She should be charged for assaulting Ms. Lijewski.
damn right. lets see a picture of the rat bastard...
>>She should be charged for assaulting Ms. Lijewski. <<
You are absolutely correct, my FRiend.
We were attempting to train our pup to be an autism dog. These helper dogs are essential to the owners. If the lady’s dog had been seriously injured, she was literally left “blind” in the middle of the store.
It was assault to the blind lady as sure as if someone knocked a seeing person in the head.
Awww....Labs are so gentle and guide dogs are angels.
Kudos to the staff at Target and the cops for acting so quickly. The person should have been fined $1,000 or 10 days in jail plus it is on their record no matter what. It would be nice if Target banned her too. They will do stuff like that.
MN? Hmmm.. Somali perhaps?
“misdemeanor citation for cruelty to animals”
Sounds like that’s it.
If this is a white woman kicking this black dog......
Is it a hate crime?
;-)
“She should be charged for assaulting Ms. Lijewski.”
Great point!
I found the story on Yahoo news.
Not on google news (no story but lots of web hits for Lolly Lijewski, though)
Not on bing news (no story but lots of web hits for Lolly Lijewski, though)
.. hmm, the perp's a Muslim?
“MN? Hmmm.. Somali perhaps?”
No idea, at this point. Just a slimeball, AFAIK.
However...If it were someone who dislikes dogs, due to their “religion”....expect the local media to cover that up.
Cruelty to animals is only a start
This kicker needs to see the courts exact vengeance on her for this intolerable act
If it had been a police dog this bitch would have been stuffed in a cop car for a good beating later off camera rather than having been cited.
Minneapolis used to be a nice city. It’s full of vile subhumans now.
Actually..it’s all dogs.
I cannot think of many and possibly any Americans who would do something that stupid. I have seen guide dogs dozens of times with people and no one ever bothers them.
Yes it is true a certain “religion” does not like dogs. I think in most cases a factor could be that dogs are cleaner.
