Please, any onset of any symptoms, please go to your doctor, go to the emergency room and be seen."

it does not say she tested positive for flu....I hope they do an autopsy and I would bet they will find some underlying problems.....
her parents did everything right...took her to the doctor, the emergency room, etc....
some things just happen...
it might have been a bad staph infection....not the flu...
but reguardless, God bless this child and her family....

I disagree -- more and more, they are finding healthy young people with no underlying conditions who nonetheless succumb to H1N1.

NO cheers, unfortunately.
Prayers up.

Pneumonia is well known to be an infection secondary to Influenza. She very well may have developed Pneumococcal Pneumonia, which progresses rapidly (it killed Jim Henson of Muppets fame). There is also a condition called Cytokine Storm, although I haven’t heard whether this is prominent with H1N1 yet.
Also, the CDC has been saying all along that the young are more severely affectecd, unlike the seasonal flu, which traditionally is worse in the elderly.

Could be any of the above: in particular tho' I am most worried about cytokine storm, in the light of articles such as
this.
NO cheers, unfortunately.

The whole article isn’t available, but I get the point.
Interesting that it resembles bird flu, since the Swine Flu H1N1 is comprised of pig, human, and BIRD influenza viruses.

Something doesn’t sound right, does it. If she was having trouble breathing and was diagnosed with pneumonia, she should have been kept in the hospital and under 24 hour nursing and doctors care. (According to a doctor friend.)

It could have been a variety of respiratory infections - bacterial, mycoplasma, or viral. I couldn’t even begin to guess which one given the small amount of information. Going to the Riverboat would be better odds. Tragic case, but things like this happen every day. More Americans die of respiratory disease every day than from accidents.
