BALTIMORE -- A Johns Hopkins University student armed with a samurai sword killed a suspected burglar in a garage behind his off-campus home early Tuesday, hours after someone broke in and stole electronics.
Some shocked neighbors said they heard bloodcurdling screams in an area just blocks from the university.

"Three young men, including one in a Hopkins T-shirt, were sitting on the front porch of the home Tuesday morning. A police officer was standing in the doorway, and a single police car was parked nearby. The men refused to talk to an Associated Press reporter. "
Smart kids.

"You take kids who are paying $50,000 a year (in tuition) and then put them out in a very dangerous city environment, it's almost like a clash of civilizations," he said. What does that have to do with the situation of the guy breaking in and stealing the kid's stuff?

Wow! electronics! That sounds exotic and expensive, and very futuristic.

The burglar would have better chances of survival if the student had a gun. Cold weapon in even somewhat trained hands is extremely deadly due to large wounds. However the student was somewhat reckless in taking a long sword to an indoor fight. I'm guessing that student had a
katana, since they are popular, and a samurai's other sword would be a
tanto. Here is a
comparison.

Mr. Guglielmi did not know why the student kept a sword. Why not?
He said he may have had some martial arts training but was not an expert.
He's expert enough. Would it be cruel to put a notch on the handle? Just asking.

The MSM has to put everything in the context of a leftist metanarrative. Here, let me give it a whirl:
One man came from a background of privilege... private schools, expensive cars, $50,000/year tuition. Another man came from a world that was not so privileged. He was poor, he was black, he was a troubled young man who was working to turn his life around. One tragic night, those worlds collided.
(should I go on?)

Why shouldn’t he have a sword? My FIL had 3 of them, that my BIL sent during the years he was stationed in Japan. The other BIL bought a beautiful display rack for them and they hung over FIL’s desk for years. My older son has one also, that he bought when doing martial arts. I don’t think it’s *that* unusual an object.

I am glad you posted it. I had not seen this before.I am an old martial artist and swordsman.
From what I could gather the perp got a single slash coming from above diagonally which opened up his torso, and his hand got in the way, almost severed.
The kid knew the rudiments of a proper strike.
The perp. likely died in a couple of minutes.
A good sword can come in handy if one knows how to use it, but give me a .45 Colt Commander any day.

If he were indeed WORKING, rather than doing B&E’s, he’d probably still be around...
