(vanity) Need to understand the installed cost of a residential elevator. (Mom and Dad moving in)

Fellow FReepers -- We are going to move my aging parents into the finished ground floor of our home. To make this work best we want to install a residential elevator into our existing structure. Architecturally, this is not hard to do, as there are several locations in the home where we can easily fit the 'column' of the lift.

BUT ... we don't have the first clue of what this might really cost us.

Who has done this? ... and can shed light on the REALISTIC costs of putting in a lift capable of handling my mom in her wheelchair and my dad assisting her.

Many thanks.

The ‘upstairs’ won’t do — it isn’t finished out as a complete dwelling. The first floor has everything an elderly couple needs (except an elevator) and was built to ADA specs when we built the house.

We didn’t put the elevator in 12 years ago, because we didn’t know for sure if or when we’d need it. We have a good spot for it; just looking to understand the likely $$ damage!

The layout of our home is such that there isn’t a great deal of room at the top of the stairs they would use. we really believe (and always have) felt that a ‘lift’ is the best way to go.

Thanks

No problem. I have seen several of them installed and they work well for many. I understand your concern(s). Good luck with the elevator. Remember many have noisy power units. Make sure and get a good understanding of how much noise they make. If Mom gets up to do something a 2am the noise can awaken the whole house and become annoying very quickly.
