Washington State Basic Health has a 9 month exclusion for pre-existing conditions (with no continuous coverage). Also, there is a long waiting list for the program with the state’s budget problems (and they aren’t improving).

The diabetes son, will probably be covered by employer insurance. He simply has to find a job.
The cancer son, is a prime example of why we do need to reform insurance, but not the way Obama wants to do it.
Read this article about insuring preexisting conditions.
Insuring Preexisting conditions
The problem with Obama's plan is that he wants to make the government responsible for the insurance and when governement is involved a lot of bad things happen.
- Government ends up subsidizing the insurance.
- Government doesn't administer any thing well, it will end up costing too much, being too slow and too bureaucratic, and it will not deliver quality care.
- There is often little recourse against government.
- Government has more power than a private insurer and can often ram decisions down providers and insurers throats that would be unacceptable and result in lawsuits in private businesses. Medicare is renowned for making retroactive decisions sometimes years later.
- With government involved, there is little competition or motivation for innovation. Yet these are the factors that drive quality of healthcare up.

I believe he the poster is trying to say that he/she is a 5 year member who created this account today to avoid people knowing his/her business.
A true FReeper would know that we all help each other when there is a real problem and we do not hide our FR identity from our FRiends.

I don’t have a job right now.
Should the government be required to give me a job?
They give me unemployement checks. (They just print them I guess.)
My mortgage is kind of high.
I think Someone else should pay for it!
I don’t want to pay for gas either . (I am really tired of that.)
In fact I am tired of paying for food also you should buy my food!
Point is life cannot be completely fair.
People with your attitude are willing to lead everyone else off the cliff because of your own selfishness.
Maybe your sons should work and save money while they can
and than government.(Buck it up!)
Maybe an employer can afford to hire me if the Government would take their boot off of their back.

As long as you maintain continuous coverage between insurers THERE IS NO PRE-EXISTING CONDITION CLAUSE!
I'm not so sure this is true. We currently have BCBS. I was thinking of applying for a p/t job that would provide me with benefits. When I called BC to ask about "continuous coverage," they said no, that I would have to re-apply all over again and take the risk of not being accepted due to pre-existing conditions.

Pretty obvious we have a Liberal troll on here who thought he had a case study that would change minds about Obamacare.
If he really has been around here for five years, he should have known FReepers would see through his charade and obliterate his agenda within minutes.

Don’t you guys dare ZOT me but I have a question pertaining to this post.
If you get an employer based health care plan can they still deny you because of pre existing or say they won’t treat anything pertaining to pre existing?
I always wondered but will never have to deal with it because I am covered though Trickery and will be for life.

Diabetes is not a particularly expensive disease to treat if you don’t act like an idiot with your diet. I get a generic drug at Walmart for $4.00 a month. His might be more but ot’s nothing to ring your hands about. As far as the cancer that’s what medicaid is all about. It does not sound as though you are them have done a lot of research.

I have never had it come up.
I know when I had to have my spinal surgery my helthcare provider had an independent company contact me to see if the disk herniation was caused by an accident or something so they could off set their costs with another insurance. But it was not the case so they paid for the whole bill.
