I'll keep this short and sweet . Have always owned PCs . Not a fan of Microsoft or Gates , but XP works well in the computer I have owned for 7 years . Hate having to purchase anti-virus protection and get tired of all the annoying , daily updates . But PCs give you more bang for the buck , and money is tight for me right now . Windows 7 is just around the corner , and by all reports it sounds like a winner . But I read just yesterday that Apple will release a re-freshed iMac very soon with more bang for less buck . I've been toying with the idea of switching to Apple for a while , and this new iMac might just be enough to make me go for it .
I am not a gamer . I use my computer mainly for basic stuff like internet , email , burning CDs , and watching Youtube videos . So I am thinking that I would not utilize a lot of the finer things Apple has to offer .
A dilemma of sorts .
What would you advise ? And please try to be as unbiased as possible . ; )

It’s a pretty easy decision really:
If you are gay, but a Mac. If you are not gay, buy something that runs windows.
Mac is rather gay.
Download free antivirus from AVG or Avast.
It depends on what you do with your machine. Does Mac had software for the things you do? Wait til Windows 7 comes out if you can.
If you need to run something — ie, QuickBooks, etc — that only runs on a PC, then you gotta get a PC.
The Macs are cool, and well built, and I’ve never met an unhappy Mac owner. You might take a bit of time learning your Mac, but it won’t be nearly the learning curve that you’d have if you go to a Vista machine.
BTW, I’m an IT guy.
You want the Mac if the budget permits, else get the PC.
I used a MAC this weekend at the hotel in washington and I’m hooked. My next computer will DEFINITELY be a MAC.

As a professional IT consultant, I say go with the PC - I could use the extra cash you’re going to spend on support and service.
As a FReeper, I say get a Mac and cut your support costs to damn near nothing.

I use a PC at work and a Mac at home. Macs are much more enjoyable to use.
Go to an Apple store and try one out for a bit.

You are correct: PC gives you more bang for the buck even considering the evil MS heritage. Any application worth running will run on a PC. I would only consider the extra expense of a Mac if I earned a living using an application that clearly ran better on a Mac, which some people claim is true for some music and some publishing apps. Personally, I’d probably still go for the PC. And my first ‘puter was an Apple II, purchased in April of ‘79.

All the current and recent Macs (i.e. Intel based) will run Windows just fine if you need to. You can either install Boot Camp and dual boot, or buy Parallels or other VM software and run most Windows stuff in a safe sandbox under MacOS.
Macs provide tremendous bang for the buck if you figure your time into the equation.
I think the important question here is:
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH IT ??
